About The College/Unit/Department
The Department of Genetics offers a collegial work environment that spans a broad range of research, from developmental and molecular genetics to evolutionary biology and ecology, with strengths in functional genomics, chromatin biology, evolutionary genetics, and microbiology. Laboratory and office space is located in a building shared by the Department of Genetics, the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and the Institute of Bioinformatics. There are excellent opportunities for collaborations among faculty as well as access to the Georgia Genomics and Bioinformatics Core, the Biomedical Microscopy Core, and the Georgia Advanced Computing Resource Center.

UGA is a prominent research-intensive land-grant university, ranked 18th among public universities, and reported over $600 million in research expenditures in the last fiscal year. The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences has a rich history and boasts a strong and diverse research portfolio. Research in the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Genetics and Microbiology span a broad range of established and emerging subdisciplines in the chemical and life sciences, including molecular medicine, computational molecular sciences, glycobiology, chemical and biological education, physical, organic, analytical, inorganic, chemical biology and materials chemistry. There are outstanding opportunities for collaborations with faculty across the Franklin College's physical and life sciences departments, as well as with faculty in the Colleges of Engineering, VetMed, Agriculture, Pharmacy, and Public Health, among others.   • Mudter Chaired Associate or Full Professor of Cancer Research in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department (tenured). An ideal candidate will have a demonstrated focus on computational studies of cancer therapeutics, including drugs as probes of cancer mechanisms and protein-drug interactions, potentially utilizing AI, bioautomation, and systems modeling.   • Assistant Professor in Computational Chemistry in the Chemistry and/or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Departments (tenure track). An ideal candidate will have a strong focus on any area of therapeutics discovery. Link:
  • Assistant Professor of Structural Biology in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department (tenure track). An ideal candidate will utilize cryoEM and potentially other structural techniques to define fundamental mechanisms of disease, with potential applications to current or future therapies. link:
  • Assistant Professor of Human Genetics in the Department of Genetics investigating how genetic makeup influences an individual's risks for diseases or responses to drugs and therapies (tenure track). Link:
  • Assistant Professor in the Genetics Department (tenure track) with a research program that includes the development and/or use of genetic models of human diseases for applications including drug discovery. An ideal candidate will have a research program that includes emphasis in areas related to aging, epigenetics, chromosome biology, gene regulation, systems biology, and/or drug resistance mechanisms. link:

Position Summary
The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for multiple open faculty positions, beginning August 1, 2026.
