PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Assists the Head Custodian with training, assigning, supervision and assisting of staff in maintaining a professional custodial program which provides and ensures a safe, clean, and sanitary environment of all campus buildings. Responsible for maintaining building space to the standards set forth by the Operations Department.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists the Head Custodian with planning, coordinating, preparing work schedules, and supervising custodians according to District custodial procedures.
Supervises and assists, using proper techniques, with the cleaning inside/outside of District buildings which includes floors, carpet, walls, glass windows, ceilings, and patio/walk areas.
Supervises and assists, using proper techniques with grounds maintenance, which includes parking lots, fence lines, playground area and equipment.
Supervises and assists, using proper techniques, in moving equipment, furniture and supplies weighing up to fifty pounds and asks for assistance with items weighing over fifty pounds.
Supervises and assists, using safe techniques, in light maintenance tasks such as painting, changing of globes, installing dispensers, and adjusting lockers.
Supervises and trains custodial personnel to use safe and proper work/cleaning techniques including the usage of power equipment and chemicals.
Ensures cleanliness and proper maintenance of all buildings and grounds.
Makes the facility available for maintenance repairs and activities, minimizing interference with curricular or extracurricular activities during normal or other than normal duty hours; maintains related documents.
Operates and maintains the lighting, security, and play areas based on District guidelines.
Ensures all District standards are maintained or exceeded including responsibility for facility security.
Assumes authority and acts as Head Custodian during Head Custodian's absence.
Maintains confidentiality of information.
Reports to work on time every day.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Successful completion of a pre employment physical examination
- Ability to understand instructions and communicate in basic English
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
