A pioneering, venture-backed biotech headquartered in San Francisco is seeking a highly accomplished Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to lead its clinical strategy, pipeline advancement, and medical governance across a portfolio of inflammatory and metabolic disease programs.

This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative, fast-growing company at a critical inflection point as it advances its lead assets toward clinical development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all clinical development activities from early development through proof-of-concept and late-stage strategy.
  • Build and oversee high-performing clinical, medical, and regulatory teams.
  • Design, execute, and optimize clinical development plans across inflammatory and metabolic indications.
  • Lead interactions with global regulatory agencies (FDA, EMA, etc.), including IND/CTA submissions and clinical guidance meetings.
  • Partner closely with R&D, translational science, and executive leadership to refine asset prioritization and development strategy.
  • Serve as the primary clinical voice for investors, boards, scientific advisors, and external partners.
  • Ensure medical governance, safety oversight, and ethical standards across all programs.

Experience & Qualifications

  • MD or MD/PhD with board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., endocrinology, immunology, rheumatology, metabolism, internal medicine).
  • Proven leadership in inflammatory and/or metabolic disease drug development.
  • 10–20+ years in biotech/pharma with a track record of leading Phase I–III clinical programs.
  • Demonstrated success interacting with the FDA and/or EMA, including INDs, CTAs, and regulatory strategies.
  • Experience building and managing clinical development teams.
  • Strong scientific, strategic, and communication skills; comfortable representing the company externally.
  • Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area (or willing to relocate).
