Job DescriptionAECOM is actively seeking a highly experienced and innovative Civil Director – Traffic, ITS & Technology for Alternative Delivery Projects to lead strategic traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) initiatives on these types of pursuits and projects across a multi-state region. This role is ideal for an experienced senior technical leader with a passion for being a part of the industry's largest and most complex alternative delivery project pursuits and delivery teams. Additionally, the candidate should be inspired and empowered to bring new ideas and innovations to these pursuits and projects that increase the value to our clients and AECOM.
The successful candidate will work closely with leadership in our transportation business including, but not limited to, our Traffic, Technology & ITS Division's leadership team and staff, regional transportation leadership including capture managers and projects managers, and others across the country as AECOM looks to build pursuit teams and delivery teams for these projects. The candidate will also have the opportunity to build and mentor their own high-performing team and deliver other transformative transportation infrastructure solutions or projects for our public and private sector clients.
Position Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and lead traffic engineering, ITS and emerging technology strategy for major alternative delivery projects, including design-build and P3 initiatives.
- Serve as a technical expert in traffic, ITS, and other emerging technologies as applied in all types and scales of transportation projects.
- Influence business outcomes through proactive involvement in pursuit and capture of alternative delivery services for our clients inclusive of Contractors and Public Agencies.
- Project Execution
- Manage tasks and teams of traffic, ITS and emerging technology professionals for various tasks related to large-scale alternative delivery infrastructure projects.
- Lead and deliver traffic analysis, forecasting, safety studies, simulation, work zone / staging, conceptual planning, and detailed design.
- Oversee the development of plan sheets, specifications, estimates, and technical documentation.
- Client Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Contractor and public agency clients inclusive of DOTs, larger municipalities, and regional agencies.
- Represent AECOM thought leadership in alternative delivery of traffic, ITS and emerging technologies as part of local, regional or national industry forums.
- Team Development
- Support broader recruiting, mentoring, and development of a team of traffic engineers and ITS professionals.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture across offices and disciplines.
- Business Development
- Actively support proposal development, scope definition, alternative technical concepts, and pricing strategies for traffic and ITS pursuits or tasks.
- Identify and support market trends and other opportunities that expand AECOM's footprint in traffic engineering, ITS, emerging technology, and smart mobility.
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS + 12 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 4 years of leadership
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field
- Minimum of 20 years of experience in engineering, traffic engineering, ITS, and transportation planning.
- Master's Degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 5 years of technical task and team leadership experience with design-build and other alternative delivery methods.
- Familiarity with regional DOT standards and practices across the U.S.
- Experience with project and business financials including scoping, scheduling and delivery of as-sold profit on complex projects and tasks.
- Experience with ITS systems engineering, communications networks, and system integration.
- Proven experience in building teams of staff, effective project / task delivery, and productive client engagement.
- Strong understanding of traffic signal systems, ITS technologies, and traffic modeling tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
