Position Summary
The Project Manager supporting advanced water resources and climate systems modeling is a technical leader responsible for managing complex, multidisciplinary engineering and analytics projects focused on water resources, climate forecasting, and environmental systems. This role combines deep technical expertise with rigorous project management, client engagement, and strategic planning responsibilities. The Project Manager serves as the primary technical authority and client point of contact, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
- Provide technical oversight and quality control for surface water, groundwater, water quality, and climate modeling efforts.
- Lead development and application of advanced modeling platforms including RiverWare, StateMod, MODFLOW, CE-QUAL-W2, and GoldSim.
- Oversee development of climate-adjusted hydrologic forecasts, paleohydrology analyses, and operational decision-support tools.
- Apply advanced analytics, optimization, and machine learning techniques to water supply forecasting and system operations.
- Direct development of custom modeling tools and decision-support systems using Python, R, FORTRAN, and GPU-accelerated workflows.
- Lead technical contributions to client deliverables, including preparation of reports, analyses, and recommendations.
- Define and scope technical approaches for new projects, incorporating emerging technologies where appropriate.
- Maintain awareness of emerging tools, modeling techniques, and regulatory trends affecting water resources management.
Leadership / Management
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team focused on delivering innovative modeling services to clients.
- Serve as a thought leader in advancing water resource and climate sectors such as water supply, and hydropower.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, learning, and entrepreneurial initiative across the team.
- Support professional growth through training, day-to-day coaching, and participation in formal mentorship programs, fostering a commitment to lifelong learning.
Project Management
- Lead end-to-end project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, risk management, profitability, and client satisfaction.
- Coordinate and direct multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants to ensure high-quality, on-time deliverables.
- Provide strategic technical oversight and collaborate with clients and partners to develop and communicate effective solutions.
- Manage project scope and additional services to prevent scope creep and support sound financial performance.
- Oversee quality control, continuous improvement efforts, and integration of innovative practices into project delivery.
- Communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and represent clients at public meetings as needed.
- Foster collaboration, professional growth, and a culture of innovation while supporting broader organizational objectives.
Required Qualifications
Years of Experience
- Master's of science/civil engineering and/or equivalent experience.
- 14+ years years of progressive experience in water resources engineering, climate forecasting, and environmental modeling.,
- 3+ years of PM Experience.
- Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, Professional Hydrologist, PM or other relevant Certification Preferred.
- Experience with scientific software, Microsoft Suite, Google Earth, Company Software (ERP, CRM, HRM etc.), GIS and programming where applicable.
Work Environment And Physical Requirements
Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment with prolonged periods of computer use. Occasional travel or field visits may be required.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel (up to 10%) for client meetings or site visits.
Salary Range:
$110,000 to $130,000
