We're building a talent pipeline of experienced Pet Talent Coordinators and Animal Handlers to support our client's growing content production needs. Our client is a leading eCommerce company that creates engaging photo and video content featuring pets as the stars.

Role Overview

This position is part of a dedicated Pet Talent team working with animals for both video and photography production. You'll work directly with pet talent, pet parents, and in-house content creators in a dynamic studio environment that produces content for web, social media, TV commercials, and more. A primary focus of this role is building the confidence and skills of pets through positive reinforcement training while observing and acknowledging animal behavior and stress signals in a fast-paced production setting.

As a Pet Talent Coordinator, you'll serve as the voice and advocate for the animals, ensuring their well-being while helping create exceptional content. You'll also play a key role in training and educating team members with diverse experience levels, including both freelance and full-time staff.

What You'll Do

Animal Handling & Training

  • Apply knowledge of species and breed-specific behaviors to encourage pets to present desirable behaviors for the camera
  • Conduct training sessions with cats and dogs using positive reinforcement techniques
  • Write training plans for shaping new behaviors and advancing pet skills
  • Build confidence in pets through consistent, positive experiences in the studio environment
  • Supervise all interactions with pets to ensure the safety of both animals and people

Pet Advocacy & Communication

  • Monitor pet behavior and stress levels during sessions, noting any changes
  • Serve as the advocate for pet talent, communicating their needs to on-set teams and leadership
  • Identify and report any safety concerns on or off set immediately
  • Craft and maintain a stress-free environment for pets by proactively addressing their needs
  • Communicate with internal teams to set pets up for success and propose alternative solutions when needed

Talent Management & Casting

  • Complete studio testing with new pets to determine their eligibility for casting
  • Update pet casting database with photos and behavioral information
  • Network with potential pet parent contacts for casting opportunities
  • Build positive relationships with pet parents and maintain ongoing communication

Training & Education

  • Conduct extensive research on new animal behavior training and techniques
  • Build and present educational presentations for pet team and studio staff
  • Mentor other handlers on new training techniques and approaches
  • Take initiative in advancing your knowledge and skills on animal behavior and training concepts

Studio Operations

  • Follow all Pet Talent Team procedures and protocols
  • Set up, break down, and clean pet holding areas
  • Assist Pet Talent Team with other duties as assigned
  • Maintain organized documentation of pet information and behaviors

What You'll Need

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of professional animal experience (training, handling, veterinary, shelter, or similar)
  • Must be comfortable around all animals including cats, dogs, horses, reptiles, and rodents
  • No animal allergies
  • Strong understanding of animal body language and stress signals
  • Experience with positive reinforcement training methods
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment
  • Physical ability to handle animals of various sizes and set up/break down equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Animal training certification or formal education in animal behavior
  • Knowledge of animal behavior/behavior analysis in the animal training field
  • Experience working with animals in a professional content production or studio setting
  • Background in applied behavior analysis (ABA) or similar behavioral science
  • Experience mentoring or training other animal handlers
  • Familiarity with various species and breed-specific needs and behaviors
  • Experience managing multiple animals and pet parents simultaneously

You stay current on animal behavior research and are committed to continuous learning and improvement in your craft.
