We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Billing Specialist to manage our billing and accounts receivable processes, ensuring accurate reimbursement and financial recordkeeping.

The Billing Specialist is responsible for handling all aspects of billing and collections within our orthopaedic practice. This role plays a key part in optimizing revenue cycle management by posting payments, following up on insurance claims, resolving billing issues, and maintaining accurate financial records. The ideal candidate will have healthcare billing experience, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to excellent patient and insurance communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Post payments from patients and insurance carriers into the billing system accurately
  • Conduct timely follow-up on insurance claims and document account activity
  • Monitor and manage outstanding patient balances and assist with collections
  • Review and resolve insurance denials and issues to support timely reimbursement
  • Generate patient cost estimates based on insurance benefits and communicate these effectively
  • Process refunds and adjustments in accordance with policies
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient financial information in compliance with HIPAA
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to verify insurance benefits prior to procedures
  • Assist with financial counseling and provide excellent customer service to patients regarding billing inquiries

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in medical billing preferred
  • Minimum of two years of healthcare billing experience, preferably in a medical or orthopaedic setting
  • Proficiency with practice management software and electronic health records (EHR/EMR) systems
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding basics
  • Strong understanding of insurance processes and reimbursement procedures
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
