Position Overview

The Medical Assistant/Medication Technician plays a vital dual role in supporting both the nursing and residential departments. This individual is responsible for ensuring safe and compliant medication administration processes, while also engaging directly with residents as a mental health technician, providing supervision, structure, and therapeutic support throughout the daily program.

This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a calm, compassionate approach to working with adolescents experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Medication Administration & Medical Support:

  • Oversee and document self-administration of medications in accordance with facility policies and state regulations.
  • Maintain accurate medication logs, MARS, and inventory control.
  • Communicate closely with the nursing manager and nursing department regarding medication changes, side effects, or medical concerns.
  • Support the nursing team with vital signs, minor first aid, and Wellness checks as directed.
  • Report any medication errors, refusals, or unusual reactions immediately to the nurse on duty or Nursing Manager.

Resident Care & Floor Supervision

  • Act as a mental health technician during program hours to ensure safety, structure, and positive engagement among residents.
  • Provide continuous supervision and maintain appropriate staff-to-resident ratios.
  • Participate actively in Group activities, meals, and recreation, modeling appropriate behavior and emotional regulation.
  • Assist residents with following their daily schedules and treatment routines.
  • Support residents through crisis intervention, redirection, and de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  • Ensure safety checks and documentation are completed in accordance with SAI policy.
  • Maintain open communication with the clinical, nursing, and residential teams to ensure coordinated care.

Administrative & Compliance Duties

  • Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly within the Electronic Health Record System.
  • Participate in staff meetings, debriefings, and ongoing training.
  • Follow all CARF, HCQC, NAC 449 and internal SAI policy standards for care, safety, and documentation.
  • Uphold confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries at all times.

Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant and Medication Technician certification required
  • Previous experience in psychiatric, behavioral health, or residential settings strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience working with adolescents required
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high stress or crisis situations.
  • Knowledge of medication safety protocols and basic medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and observation skills.
  • Must be able to pass background check and drug screening.
