Building Operations/Zamboni Driver

This job requires the ability to work with and understand heavy machinery. Candidates will be trained on the operation and daily maintenance of the Zamboni Ice Resurfacer. This position is responsible for resurfacing the ice correctly and safely to ensure and maintain acceptable ice conditions. Other job descriptions include keeping all areas of the facility neat and clean at all times by sweeping bathrooms and locker rooms, lobby, bleachers, etc. Routine maintenance and janitorial functions of the facility while it is open to the public, is required. Collects admission fees for ice rental programs, and maintains records of admissions to reconcile receipts; may give first aid to injured skaters. Performs minor maintenance and repair to equipment and machinery and assists in snow removal to entrances/exits and walkways. Cleans and performs preventative maintenance in arena, which includes sweeping, mopping, and buffing floors; vacuuming rugs, washing windows, replacing light bulbs, emptying trash, dusting furniture, and sanitizes bathrooms and locker rooms fixtures and floors, refills liquid soap, and refills paper towels and toilet paper. Performs other related duties as assigned. This position will work alone and with other positions as required by the facility activities schedule. Work schedule will include nights, weekends and some holidays as necessary to meet the needs of our patrons and to complete job responsibilities.

Qualifications:Preferred experience in an ice arena or similar organization but not necessary, with some exposure to the operations and maintenance functions, including knowledge of equipment and skate sharpening; must have a valid Driver's License; be a self-starter with ability to analyze situations and develop solutions to problems with minimal supervision; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with a variety of individuals and groups, interested in recreational matters, representing different interests; must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and manage time effectively; flexibility to work varying hours especially as seasons and service needs change.

Additional Helpful Skills:

  • Zamboni operation or experience is preferred and will pay more based on experience.
  • Must be able to operate heavy machinery.
  • Must be able to understand and carry out instructions efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be highly motivated to learn new skills that are essential to completing daily ice maintenance.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting heavy objects.
