Supervisor, Transportation/Grounds/Vehicle Maintenance

BASIC FUNCTION:
Schedules, plans, coordinates and reviews the transportation and grounds/plumbing activities of the district. Supervises, assigns and evaluates the performance of all personnel assigned to transportation, grounds and vehicle maintenance. i.e.: grounds/bus drivers, driver trainers, vehicle / small engine mechanics and other classification as assigned. Coordinates maintenance and repairs of all district vehicles and small engine equipment. Recommends vehicle and equipment replacement. Prepares bus routes and field trip schedules. Maintains emergency communications essential to student safety. Performs other duties as required by the district.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assumes responsibility for the assignment of assigned personnel and the preparation of work schedules.
Supervise all repairs to district vehicles and equipment. Assures repairs on school buses meet all state and federal standards.
Oversees and approves reports concerning district transportation and grounds/plumbing programs such as monthly fuel consumption and the annual state report
Assists in the planning, development and implementation of all required C.H.P. training for transportation personnel.
Reviews, oversees and approves supply and equipment requisitions.
Prepares, organizes and coordinates grounds/bus routes for all bus drivers and schedules field trip requests.
Establishes, revises, updates and modifies a preventive maintenance program for all district vehicles and small engine equipment.
Supervises, approves and recommends to the Director of M.O.T. vehicle and small engine equipment replacement priorities.
Maintain all records required by the state of California and the Federal Government relating to the transportation of school children and hazardous materials that are used in vehicle maintenance.
CER Inspection.
Maintain a safe working environment for employees.
Coordinates and updates district hazardous materials business plan.
Assist with safety inspections at all sites bi-annually.
Oversee and/or conduct safety training for district personnel.
Maintain district Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) files.
On call for off hour emergencies.
Maintain district cellular phone system.
Performs other managerial duties as assigned.

ENTRANCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of training and experience which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and ability to supervise a transportation department and vehicle maintenance/repair facility. For example, AA or equivalent not less than five years of paid experience performing journeyman-level duties in one or more of the transportation trades, preferably two years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation and/or safety. (Additional full-time paid transportation experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Materials and equipment utilized in transportation. Principles of organization and supervision. Standard practices of the supervised trades. Requirements of maintaining school buses in accordance with state safety standards and in a safe wellmaintained and orderly condition. Tools and power equipment used in transportation. The building of bus routes and establishing safe bus stop locations. ABILITY TO: Perform skilled work in one or more of the trades supervised. Schedule and coordinate the work of others. Supervise and prepare and present thorough and concise reports Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

LICENSES:
Possess and maintain a class B license or School Bus Driver's certificate.
Possess and maintain a valid First Aid Certificate.
