Customer Service & Data Input Specialist

Reports To: Office Manager

Status: Full-Time

Location: Scouting America – Longhouse Council, Syracuse, NY

Salary Range: $18.00 to $21.00 an hour

Position Summary

The Customer Service & Data Input Specialist serves as the frontline contact for visitors, callers, and organizational inquiries while ensuring accurate and timely data processing across multiple systems. This dual role position requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced office environment. The ideal candidate will deliver exceptional customer service, maintain data integrity, and support both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Greet and assist walk-in visitors, volunteers, and clients in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and general inquiries efficiently and courteously.
  • Provide accurate information regarding programs, services, events, or procedures.
  • Maintain a welcoming and organized reception area.
  • Route calls and messages to the appropriate staff members.

Data Entry & Management

  • Accurately enter, update, and maintain records in organizational databases and software systems.
  • Verify data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Organize and maintain digital files, ensuring proper documentation and accessibility.
  • Assist in preparing reports, lists, and data summaries as needed.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with daily office operations, including filing, copying, scanning, and mail management.
  • Support event registration, payments, and customer follow-up processes.
  • Learn and use internal systems (CRM, event registration, financial systems, etc.) proficiently.
  • Help maintain inventory of office supplies and materials.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Accurate typing and data entry abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Professional, positive, and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Preferred

  • Prior customer service, administrative, or data entry experience.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems or membership databases.
  • Social Media and Marketing experience desired
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Experience in nonprofit, service-based, or membership-focused environments.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based environment with regular in-person interaction.
  • Frequent computer and phone use.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of office supplies or informational materials.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $21.00 per hour
