Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses, managing billing processes, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. This role is essential in supporting the financial health of the practice while maintaining precise medical records. Candidates should have a strong understanding of medical coding systems, billing procedures, and electronic health record (EHR) systems to succeed in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes to medical diagnoses and procedures based on documentation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of insurance claims using EMR/EHR systems.
  • Review patient records for completeness and correctness before coding.
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims to facilitate collections and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to clarify documentation as needed for accurate coding.
  • Manage medical records with confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA standards.
  • Assist in training or mentoring new staff members regarding coding procedures and billing processes.

Skills

  • Proficiency in DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy.
  • Experience with medical billing, collections, and insurance claim processing.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for documentation and billing.
  • Knowledge of medical records management and healthcare compliance standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately.
  • Prior experience in a medical office setting is preferred but not required. Job Type: Full-time
