Title:
Manager I, Payroll
Under limited supervision, maintains payroll processes for the DeKalb County School System.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises and trains payroll staff, ensuring appropriate checks and balances for accurate and legally compliant payroll operations.
  • Provides technical expertise to the department, working on issues that require an in-depth knowledge of the functional area.
  • Manages regular payroll processing cycles, including semi-monthly and special runs, while facilitating the process for unique or out-of-cycle employee situations and payments as needed.
  • Reviews, adjusts, and develops payroll-related systems, guidelines, and procedures to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with Human Resources and other relevant departments as necessary.
  • Generates reports for management review to aid in decision-making processes and advises on strategic planning related to payroll operations.
  • Handles transactions such as adjustments, manual checks, voids or stop payments, ACH reversals deductions, reimbursements, and tax records.
  • Responds to inquiries, concerns, or complaints within areas of responsibility, maintaining a high level of service for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists with the interpretation of new or revised regulations or laws related to payroll across the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And/Or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field with 5 years of related and/or supervisory experience required.
