POSITION SUMMARY:

The Paralegal assists with case planning, development, and management, legal research, calendars deadlines, files and serves documents, prepares discovery, drafts motions, compiles motion for filing and service, interviews clients, gathers facts and retrieves information, drafts and analyzes legal documents and collects, complies and utilizes technical information for case managements and progress.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drafts legal documents, formal discovery requests, notices, interrogatories, motions and summaries of depositions.
  • Assists with locating and contacting witnesses, arranges for the interview and evaluation of witnesses, drafts declarations, Points and Authorities, prepares Judicial Council forms including Preliminary Declarations of Disclosure, Domestic Violence Restraining Orders and Stipulated Judgment forms.
  • Compiles and organizes trial notebooks, exhibits and files and coordinate the scheduling of witnesses, assists attorneys with witness issues and exhibits.
  • Drafts formal discovery requests and responses, including special interrogatories, requests for admissions, production demands, deposition notices and motions to compel for the attorney.
  • Performs legal research including statutory and case law and drafts forms, research memoranda, proposed rules, orders and other documents.
  • Prepares summaries of depositions and court transcripts and witness testimony.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum three (3) years experience working in California Family Law
  • Within the introductory period, obtain a working knowledge of the law, Rules of Professional Conduct and procedures as they apply to the performance of major duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Knowledge of attorney client relationships applicable to the performance of major duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Principles of legal writing.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Self-reliant, good problem solver and results oriented.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and

  • Proficient at Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, stoop, sit, crouch, bend, speak, and hear.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a computer desk.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects between 10 and 20 pounds.
  • Quiet work space free from distractions Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Ability to appear for video and phone calls Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
