Job Description

The Director of Teacher Programs is a visionary leader responsible for the strategic direction, design, and execution of national professional development partnerships for K–12 educators. This role ensures that all teacher-facing programs align with the organization's mission to advance American civic education and are responsive to the evolving needs of educators across diverse contexts. The Director oversees a growing team of managers and program staff, manages high-level partnerships, and drives innovation in both in-person and virtual learning formats. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and managing relationships with school districts, educational organizations, and educators, driving sales opportunities, and fostering collaborations to advance civic education initiatives. Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Develop and implement a multi-year strategic plan for meeting the evolving needs of teachers and schools as it relates to professional learning and curricular resources.
  • Identify measurable goals for organization reach, program quality, sales interactions, and educator engagement.
  • Lead the expansion of professional development connected to customized curricular resources at the local and state level.
  • Align programming with national trends in civic education, state standards, and district needs.

Program Design & Execution

  • Oversee the planning and delivery of over 300 annual teacher-facing events.
  • Ensure consistent quality and mission alignment across all program formats.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement longitudinal learning pathways, including certification programs and online modules.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise a team of four full time staff members and several part-time independent contractors while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
  • Provide coaching, professional development, and performance evaluation to ensure team growth and retention.
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration across the organization including consistent communication with the Content, Initiatives, Outreach, and Development teams.
  • Monitor and manage program budgets, collaborating with our Development team to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with financial requirements.

Partnership & Network Development

  • Cultivate and manage relationships with school districts, state education agencies, and civic education organizations across the country.
  • Expand district-supported PD models and state-specific outreach strategies.
  • Represent the Bill of Rights Institute at social studies conferences by staffing vendor tables, promoting awareness, and fostering connections that may lead to partnerships and programs.
  • Conduct market research and outreach within designated regions to compile lists of potential partnership prospects.

Innovation & Evaluation

  • Lead the development of new learning formats, including place-based PD, virtual state-specific trainings, and early-career educator cohorts.
  • Use data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
  • Develop tools to assess the impact of partnerships and define success metrics across diverse program types.
  • Be a leader in best practices in pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning related to civics and history instruction.

Qualifications

·       Bachelor's degree in education, history, business, communications, or related field (Master's degree preferred).

·       Proven experience in cultivating and managing relationships with school districts, educators, and educational organizations.

  • 10+ years of experience in education, with at least 5 in program leadership or professional development.
  • Deep understanding of civic education, curriculum design, and the K–12 landscape.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex projects and budgets, and build strategic partnerships.

·       Strong business development and sales skills with a track record of identifying and pursuing educational partnership opportunities.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with both in-person and virtual learning environments.

·       Knowledge of educational trends, curriculum standards, and pedagogical strategies in social studies education preferred.

  • Allocate 30% of your schedule to travel, engaging with stakeholders, attending conferences, and conducting outreach activities as necessary
