Job Overview
The HR Generalist serves as a partner to business leaders and employees, providing professional-level expertise across all areas of human resources. This role exercises discretion and independent judgment in interpreting and applying HR policies, resolving complex employee issues, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and company standards. The HR Generalist supports a multi-state workforce and plays a key role in shaping a fair, compliant, and high-performing workplace culture.
What You'll Focus On:
Recruitment
- Partner with hiring managers to define hiring needs, draft job descriptions, and manage the full recruitment process for exempt and non-exempt roles.
- Evaluate candidates and make recommendations for hiring based on job-related criteria and organizational fit.
Employee Relations & HR Support
- Act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees, providing guidance on employee relations, policy interpretation, and workplace conflict resolution.
- Maintain HR records and data integrity within HRIS, ensuring compliance with data privacy and retention requirements.
- Conduct confidential investigations into employee complaints, conduct issues, or policy violations; prepare reports and recommendations.Interpret and apply federal, state, and local employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, etc.) to ensure compliance.
- Advise managers on disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, and termination decisions.
Performance management
- Coach managers through performance management.
- Partner with HR leadership to support employee engagement, retention, and recognition initiatives.
HR Operations
- Implement and communicate HR policies and procedures that align with business objectives and legal requirements.
- Serve as a key contributor to HR projects, system implementations, and continuous process improvement efforts.
- Manage leave of absence cases (FMLA, ADA, personal leaves) by reviewing documentation, determining eligibility, and ensuring compliance.
- Support annual benefits renewal and open enrollment processes, providing education and communication to employees.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
- 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, with proven ability to exercise independent judgment and handle sensitive matters.
- Solid understanding of multi-state employment law, leave administration, and compliance practices
- Solid knowledge of California employment law and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze situations, develop solutions, and influence decision-making.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with HRIS and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace; experience with Namely and Greenhouse.
- Proficiency in English and Mandarin is required
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.

Work Condition:
- This position is remote in the Pacific Time Zone.
- Must be able to work for extended periods at a computer and participate in virtual meetings.
- Must be flexible to support employees across different timezones or to meet urgent HR needs
- The role may involve handling confidential and sensitive information that requires discretion and emotional resilience.
- Work involves periodic high-pressure situations requiring sound decision-making, attention to detail, and adherence to deadlines.
