This position is working as a Infant-toddler-two (IT2) teacher in per assignment. This position

is being offered based on two tier qualification requirements. To be considered as "Tier 1" you

must have a bachelor degree in Early Childhood or Child Development, with a minimum Level 3 Illinois Gateway Infant-Toddler credential. Tier 2 consideration is for someone with an Associates in Early Childhood or 60 college credit hours with 21 ECE certified hours both with a minimum of a Illinois Gateways Level 2 Infant-Toddler Credential. Compensation for this position is based on the hiring tier.

Job Description

Under general direction from a designated supervisor and as prescribed by Chicago State University. This position will carry out the following duties in and early learning and care environment as follows:

  • Participate in the recruitment and enrollment of eligible children and families for the CSU Child Development Laboratory School and comply with all recruitment activities, plans, and policies as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Participate in the planning process and development of program policies and plans.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences and activities in language, math, science, gross motor, fine motor, and social/emotional development.
  • Develop Lesson Plans that include individualized activities for children and align with Early Learning Standards.
  • Develop individualized activities to support a child's IFSP (Individual Family Support Plan)
  • Always ensures the safety and supervision of children by sight, sound, and counting, during indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of children with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturities.
  • Provide ongoing observation and authentic assessment of children and maintain documentation of each child's progress and growth using adopted assessment tools.
  • Document classroom observations for the purpose of collecting data for child outcome assessments.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction designed to meet individual needs of children in all areas of development.
  • Participate in the program self-assessment and community needs process.
  • Schedule and plan home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Support proper feeding and/or meal service requirements in accordance with ISBE CACFP, Early Head Start and IL DCFS requirements. .
  • Implement developmentally appropriate practices for children Birth-3 years old.
  • Document and maintain accurate daily attendance and food count.
  • Document and maintain daily health and safety checklists.
  • In collaboration with each child's parent or guardian, complete a developmental screening within forty-five (45) calendar days of a child's enrollment.
  • Complete all required documentation on each child per the Early/Head Start Performance Standards at the 30-day, 45 days, timeline, etc. according to the enrollment date of each individual child.
  • Ensure that all required documentation is entered into the data entry systems and ensure that all contact notes are entered and updated within 24 hours of contact with families.Implement
  • Plan and coordinate the work of assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and special events to obtain the maximum benefit from their efforts.
  • Develop activities for parents that promote parent participation and involvement in education activities provided for their children, ensure that parents understand the curriculum and age-appropriate expectations for learning and development.
  • Work collaboratively with the family support worker to maintain good parent engagement..
  • Communicate regularly with parents by means of parent meetings, newsletters, and individual parent conferences.
  • Provide appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable child behavior, attitudes, and social skills.
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of children's work.
  • Assisting children with health and hygiene practices, bathroom routines, including diaper changing, tooth brushing, hand washing, and all other necessary health and safety standards.
  • Submit weekly reports/calendars as required.
  • Enter assessment data in SmartTeach and enter contact notes and other required documents in the data entry systems as required.
  • Complete and enter time records in web time for payroll as required.
  • Participate in development of program plans and policies.
  • Participate in on-going professional development
  • Participate in program activities such as staff, parent meetings, and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned as relevant to program goals and position expectations.

Minimum Qualifications

Tier 1:

  • Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with a Level 3 IL Gateways Infant-Toddler Credential
  • Alternatively a Bachelor Degree in related field with a Level 5 IL Gateways Infant-Toddler Credential

Tier 2:

  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood with a Level 2 Illinois Gateways Infant-Toddler Credential and working to attain a level 4 Infant-Toddler Credential
  • Alternatively 60 college credit hours with 21 ECE hours as determined by Illinois Gateway Credentialing system with a minimum of a Level 2 Illinois Gateway Infant-Toddler credential and workings to attain a level 4 Infant-Toddler credential. Additionally 1-year of experience working with children birth-3.

Preferred Qualifications

3 years of experience working as a birth-3 teacher care giver in a center based setting.

2 years experience working in an Early Head Start program

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of young children between birth-3.
  • Knowledge of Early/Head Start
  • Meet all University and DCFS hiring requirements, including background check and Physical.
  • Follow all DCFS licensing guidelines.
  • Attend and participate in all required training and professional development opportunities.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum and SmartTeach

Additional Applicant Information Physical Requirement/ Demands

Must be able to physically interact with children, including talk, hear, sit, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and or move items of up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment

Typical early childhood classroom setting for preschoolers. Work with students in classrooms and spend time outdoors daily on the playground, on the CSU campus, or occasional field trips, as weather permits.
