Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part-Time Legal Assistant to join our dynamic law office. In this role, you will provide essential administrative and legal support across a variety of practice areas, including estate planning, environmental law, family law, litigation, and more. Your proactive approach and strong organizational skills will help ensure the smooth operation of our legal processes, assist attorneys with case management, and facilitate effective communication with clients and stakeholders. Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools to support case development and strategy.
- Prepare, review, and proofread legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, discovery materials, and correspondence with meticulous attention to detail.
- Manage legal case files using document management systems like iManage and PCLaw, ensuring all records are accurate, organized, and up-to-date.
- Conduct document review and data entry to support litigation, estate planning, landlord-tenant disputes, workers' compensation claims, personal injury cases, and other practice areas.
- Support project management tasks by coordinating deadlines, scheduling meetings or interviews with clients or witnesses, and tracking case progress.
- Perform administrative duties including filing documents electronically or physically, managing phone inquiries with professional etiquette, and maintaining organized office workflows.
- Assist in client interviewing processes by gathering relevant information efficiently and professionally.
- Support attorneys in immigration law matters, tribal law & regulations compliance, securities law documentation, patent law filings, or environmental law projects as needed.
- Proofread legal documents for accuracy and clarity; transcribe dictations or notes into formal drafts when required.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information while adhering to firm policies on document security and data privacy.
Skills
- Proven experience as a paralegal or legal assistant within a law office environment.
- Strong knowledge of various practice areas including estate planning, environmental law, family law, litigation procedures, UCC law (Uniform Commercial Code), securities law, patent law, tribal law & regulations, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, landlord-tenant law, immigration law.
- Proficiency with legal research platforms such as Westlaw and LexisNexis; familiarity with legal case management software like PCLaw and iManage is highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
- Exceptional writing skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence; keen proofreading abilities for accuracy.
- Strong research skills to gather pertinent case information across diverse legal fields.
- Experience with document review processes and contract drafting is preferred.
- Familiarity with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing systems (physical or electronic), transcription services, and clerical support functions.
- Effective phone etiquette coupled with professional communication skills for client interactions.
