Portland, Oregon, United States Seedlings Playschool Full time $100,800 per year

Seedlings Playschool is seeking a passionate Preschool Teacher to join our reggio inspired, play based, emergent curriculum preschool program.

At Seedlings Playschool, we believe childhood is a time to be cherished, not rushed. We honor young children as whole people — capable, curious, creative, and worthy of our deepest respect.

We are a small, joyful, play-based preschool program in North Portland, inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and built around an emergent curriculum. Our days are full of wonder: messy art, muddy boots, deep play, big emotions, and real relationships. We spend lots of time outdoors, embrace process over product, and trust children to lead their own learning journeys.

Responsibilities:

You will spend your days here...

  • Creating a Nurturing Environment: Design and maintain a safe, inviting, and stimulating space that encourages exploration and discovery, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Facilitating Child-Led Learning: Observe and support children's interests, allowing their curiosities to guide emergent curriculum development.
  • Embracing Play as Serious Learning: Recognize play as the primary mode of learning, providing ample opportunities for messy, noisy, and joyful experiences that foster growth.
  • Supporting Emotional Development: Mediate conflict between children, rather than impose solutions; co-regulate by showing patience and empathy in times of frustration; guide children in learning to set confident boundaries, respect one another, and care for their community.
  • Collaborating with Families and Team Members: Engage in open, respectful communication with families and colleagues to create a vibrant and inclusive community.
  • Engaging in Reflective Practice: Participate in ongoing professional development and self-reflection to continually grow and align with our educational philosophy.

Benefits and Details:

At Seedlings, we can offer you...

  • Work with children ages 2–5 in a mixed-age, play-based (reggio emilia inspired, emergent curriculum) setting
  • Paid training and professional development
  • Competitive pay, with opportunities for growth
  • Matching 401k
  • Healthcare benefits for Full Time employees
  • Paid holiday breaks (About 5 weeks per year, in total)
  • Great ratios, supportive team, warm community

Qualifications:

We are looking for a teacher who shares our heart and our vision;

Someone who...

  • Truly sees and honors each child as an individual
  • Believes in following the child's lead and co-constructing learning together
  • Loves the messy, noisy, beautiful work of play
  • Values connection over control
  • Can be silly, patient, grounded, and collaborative
  • Finds joy in observing children's interests and creating opportunities for exploration
  • Is excited to work closely with a small team, families, and children in an environment built on trust, respect, and joy

Must-Haves for this position:

  • Experience working with preschool-aged children
  • Familiarity and alignment with Reggio Emilia, play-based, or emergent curriculum approaches
  • CPR/First Aid certification, safety set trainings (or willingness to obtain)
  • Oregon background check (or ability to complete one)

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who will bring JOY to our school and the children we care for here — someone who shares our values and wants to grow with us.

We can't wait to meet you

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • 401(k) matching
  • Health insurance

Who/what do you read, when looking for inspiration?

  • How many months or years of previous experience do you have working as a teacher in a classroom with children between the ages of 2-5 years? Did you work in full-day or part-day programs? Based on what you've read about Seedlings (in the job description or on the website), tell me about some similarities and differences between Seedlings and your previous programs.
  • You've noticed a big interest in kids filling bags and baskets with various things and carrying them around the room. As a teacher in an emergent curriculum classroom, how can you support the child around this interest/exploration?
  • Imagine two children in your class are holding the same bucket, and they are both shouting "MINE" What do you do? What do you say? Walk me through in detail.
