Overview

The Grocery/Dairy/Frozen/Bulk Assistant is responsible for assisting the Grocery/Bulk and Dairy/Frozen Managers in the successful operation and profitability of their respective departments.

Responsibilities

• Providing world?class customer service as a number one priority.
• Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence while adhering to all policies.
• Creating inviting, fully stocked, and shoppable departments.
• Assisting managers in ordering and maintaining accurate inventory levels for grocery, bulk, dairy, and frozen departments.
• Managing margin, COGS, and overall profitability while minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
• Ensuring all in?stock products and conditions meet company standards.
• Offering and following up on special orders.
• Merchandising shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.
• Managing and participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.
• Assisting in training and monitoring of department personnel, assigning and following up on tasks.
• Conducting active and passive demonstrations.
• Working with managers to address performance issues within the department.
• Supporting store opening and closing activities, including the Daily Sales Report (DSR) and cash handling and cashier closeout responsibilities.
• Handling register functions such as backup cashiering, customer returns, complaint resolution, and register shift changes.
• Maintaining safety and security for customers and employees.
• Answering customer questions per company standards and policies, including health?supportive statements.
• Continuously increasing product knowledge.
• Using SAP, inventory management software, email, and other IS programs as needed.
• Working a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, holidays; a five?day, 40?hour week with mandatory meetings.
• Handling limited Manager on Duty responsibilities, but never the overall Manager on Duty for the store.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (preferred).
• At least 1 year of experience in a grocery or retail environment (natural foods background a plus).
• At least 1 year of supervisory experience (preferred).
• Ability to pass food safety training courses and maintain certifications as required by law.
• Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused.
• Sense of urgency in task completion.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Highly organized with great attention to detail.
• Ability to take direction and follow through.
• Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
