Administrative Assistant

This position is responsible for providing secretarial and administrative support to the Assistant Chief of Police and the department as a whole.
Responsibilities include compiling and formatting correspondence, maintaining appointment calendars, responding to inquiries from the general public, providing secretarial and clerical assistance in confidential administrative matters, compiling data and research, maintaining confidential files, receiving, sorting, and distributing office mail, maintaining time books, and entering work hours in the payroll system. Additionally, the position requires skills in modern office procedures, department policies and procedures, applicable federal and state statutes, local ordinances, record and file management, operating various office equipment, using computer and business software applications, oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, problem-solving, and decision-making.
The minimum educational and training requirements are typically associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Physical requirements include balancing, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking. Work is typically performed in a standard office environment.
