Accounting Manager

A growing organization in the insurance services industry is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to oversee accounting operations, support newly acquired agencies, and manage agency management system (AMS) onboarding. This role reports to the controller and will manage a team of staff accountants while supporting all aspects of agency accounting, integration activities, and month-end close. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, acquisition-oriented environment and demonstrates strong leadership and technical accounting skills.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of staff accountants and oversee day-to-day accounting activities
- Coordinate training and support for agency accounting teams, best practices, and required reporting
- Oversee full accounting processes for agencies, including accounts payable, payroll recording, cash receipts, accounts receivable, carrier payables, producer/broker payables, direct bill recording, and month-end reporting
- Implement efficient accounting procedures and support agencies in executing month-end close in a growing and complex environment
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with agency leadership, financial institutions, external accountants, and internal teams
- Mentor accounting staff and support the controller in developing and scaling the team
- Assist with ad hoc financial analyses for agency partners
- 5+ years of experience supporting small to mid-size multi-location organizations
- Experience at the accounting manager or team lead level
- Proven experience managing and developing team members
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including advanced skills), Word, Outlook, and preferably PowerPoint
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Local to the greater Chicago area preferred
- Strong work ethic, high attention to detail, and a commitment to accountability and follow-through
- Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and alignment with organizational values
- Solid technical accounting background, preferably within insurance agency operations or related industries
- Experience supporting acquisitions or integrations is a plus
Compensation:
Salary range of $100,000 to $110,000 with healthcare, dental, and vision benefits.
