Ascension St. Thomas West is seeking a dedicated and seasoned healthcare leader to join our team as the Director of Surgical Services. In this crucial position, you will oversee clinical operations and workflow, committed to delivering high-quality patient care and achieving operational excellence.

Our facility features 17 Operating Rooms, offering specialized services in vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, kidney, transplant, joint replacement, podiatry, plastics and neurosurgery.

Responsibilities

Direct the development and implementation of policies, procedures and strategies for Surgical Services.
  • Develop departmental goals, plans and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Plan, organize and direct all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepare budgets and ensure compliance with allocated funding. Coordinate and direct internal/external audits.
  • Direct and evaluate all clinical activities, including care plan development, service level determination, and complaint management to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, administration and directors to develop streamlined operations where equipment, supplies and staff are utilized efficiently and resourcefully.
  • Remove obstacles to achieving clinical quality, service excellence and financial effectiveness targets.
Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

Required Credential(s):

  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Nursing or current home state license for multi-state license recognition "Compact State" obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date or license eligible.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required. Master's degree or combination of Bachelor's degree and experience preferred.
Work Experience:
  • 5 years of experience required.
  • 10 years of experience preferred.
  • 2 years of leadership or management experience required.
  • 5 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
Additional Preferences

  • Proven track record of significant previous management experience in a healthcare or surgical setting
  • Previous success in leading teams, managing complex operations, and achieving organizational objectives
