About the Role:

The Transportation Supervisor supports the Safety Department playing a key role by providing logistical and communication support for transportation operations and ensures timely and accurate execution of operational tasks that impact students and school operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to maintaining high standards of service, confidentiality, and operational excellence.

The Transportation Supervisor position will ensure that equity is at the center of the district's communications services to positively impact student learning and employee practices as expressed in Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Transportation:
  • Assist the Chief Safety Officer and/or designee in the management and coordination of daily school bus transportation operations.
  • Collaborate with the contracted bus company to establish all regular bus routes, schedules and stops.
  • Support the development of route maps for drivers, schools, etc., as needed
  • Coordinate student transportation activities with school officials, department heads and other interested groups or individuals.
  • Participate along with administration in parent/student conferences in an effort to resolve or prevent misconduct and unsafe conditions, which involve the transportation system.
  • Assist in the development of the Safety Department's budget for transportation.
  • Collect data and develop all required school bus transportation oriented reports and ensure their submissions are timely.
  • Arranges for special transportation for summer school and other special circumstances.
  • Ensure safety at all bus stops.
  • Be aware of all accidents, gaining a complete understanding, and monitoring their investigations.
  • Respond to transportation-related inquiries under the direction of the Chief Safety Officer and communicate with staff, administrators, and families.
  • Support the implementation of strategies for the safe and effective transportation of students, including route and schedule communication, and emergency procedures.
  • Support the transportation billing process.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with District partners (i.e. bus companies, police department, ect.), which enables us to stay informed of: safe passage routes, weather, road conditions, road closures and any motor vehicle accidents.
  • Aid the Chief Safety Officer and/or designee in responding to emergency situations as needed and assists with inclement weather information coordination.
  • Work with the Chief Safety Officer and/or designee to report any safety concerns or route issues raised by students, parents, or school staff to the appropriate parties for follow-up.
  • Create in conjunction with the Chief Safety Officer and/or designee all communication with parents and community regarding bus routes, times, stops, etc.
  • Communicate with district staff regarding scheduling of field trips and athletic events.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with district administrators, ensuring the transportation program is operating effectively.
  • Receive all phone calls/emails from the public pertaining to bus routing, pick-up points, and transportation.
Other Duties
  • Supports the Chief Safety Officer and/or designee in communication efforts, keeping leadership informed of key issues and seeking guidance when needed.
  • Participates in meetings and contributes to process improvements and planning.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to all legal and policy requirements.
  • Assumes additional duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to school operations.
  • Knowledge of administrative and recordkeeping practices, including compliance monitoring.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices in a school or public service environment.
  • Skilled in coordinating multiple operational functions and managing competing priorities.
  • Skilled in using and troubleshooting digital platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office).
  • Skilled in gathering, analyzing, and reporting operational data to support decision-making.
  • Skilled in applying problem-solving techniques and systems-thinking to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders including school administrators, employees, families, and external partners.
  • Skilled in tracking deadlines and supporting process compliance across departments.

Candidate Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferred
  • Experience in transportation, preferred
  • Customer service experience

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the performance of light work-which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The position includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking, climbing stairs and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in non-hazardous environments and a clean atmosphere. The position requires indoor and outdoor supervision during varying temperatures and climatic conditions.
