Build meaningful connections through teaching independence to adults with developmental disabilities $14.35-$17.00/hr. Non-CNAs welcome. Teaching, mentoring, caregiving, medical monitoring, and hygiene assistance are a few of the roles. These supports are provided in group home or group day program settings. Supports could include teaching people how to:

-Maintain living space, personal hygiene and balance in their home life & weekly schedules

-Learn assembly and production work skills, manage break times, and build co-worker relationships

-Participate in activities, exercise, use etiquette, improve coping skills & self esteem

-Plan & prepare meals, grocery shop, operate household appliances, and budget

-Use community resources, understand their rights, and be safety aware

-Prepare for and participate in leisure activities - Special Olympics, sports, dances, gatherings, etc.

-Manage their sensory needs and maintain their own structured environment

Positions require assisting individuals with hygiene/personal care. A comprehensive two-week, weekday, daytime orientation is provided and required (this is excellent paid training with certifications).

Shifts: Mon-Fri 8a-4p; Fri 3p-Midnight + Sat/Sun 8a-8p; Mon-Thur 3p-Midnight; 3rd shift - Tue-Fri 12:00a Midnight to 9a; or 3rd shift - Sat 12:00a Midnight to 8a + Sat & Sun overnight 8p-8a.

Requirements for a Direct Support Caregiver:
  • High school diploma or accredited GED
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record (less than four infractions/tickets)
  • Dependable transportation & proof of auto insurance
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs or ¼ of own body weight, whichever is less
  • Work experience or knowledge regarding the needs of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities is beneficial, but not required
  • Able to attend a daytime training during the first weeks of employment
  • Other beneficial experience: CNA, CMA, Direct Care, HHA, caregiver, third shift, restorative aide, elder care, skills trainer, Medical Aide, direct support, Medical Assistant, non CNA, nursing home, adult care, special education, psychology, teaching, advocacy, home supports, mental Health, human services, 2nd shift, 3rd shift, weekend shift, home health aide, overnight.
