Capitol Axis is a boutique lobbying and strategic consulting firm located steps from the California State Capitol. We work at the intersection of public policy, civil liberties, political strategy, public relations, and investigative research. Our work touches California’s most important legislative debates — including privacy, criminal justice, civil rights, education policy, and regulatory reform.

We are a small, fast-moving, ambitious shop. You won’t be fetching coffee — you’ll be learning how Sacramento really works.

Position Overview

We are seeking a sharp, reliable, proactive Executive Assistant / “Right Hand” Intern to work directly with the firm’s principal lobbyist. This is a hands-on, immersive role ideal for someone who wants to be in the room where it happens. You will accompany the principal to meetings, hearings, and Capitol visits, while also helping manage day-to-day operations back at the office.

Perfect for students or recent graduates in law, political science, public policy, communications, journalism, or marketing who want real experience, real mentorship, and real responsibility.

What You’ll Do

You will gain exposure to every aspect of political advocacy and strategic consulting, including:

Legislative & Policy Research

  • Track California legislation across multiple committees
  • Draft bill summaries, analysis notes, and talking points
  • Assist with public records research and background investigations

Communications & PR Work

  • Draft emails, memos, social media posts, and press materials
  • Help develop messaging, public-facing content, and media outreach
  • Support photography/videography for PR and political campaigns

Office & Executive Support

  • Maintain calendars, deadlines, and client communications
  • Help organize meetings, hearings, and Capitol walk-throughs
  • Serve as an all-around “logistics brain” to keep projects moving

Field & Capitol Work

  • Join legislative meetings, hearings, and advocacy days
  • Help with networking events, mixers, and coalition meetings
  • Learn the practical art of lobbying—from relationship-building to persuasion

Who We’re Looking For

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and trustworthy
  • Strong writer with excellent communication skills
  • Self-starter who enjoys learning and taking initiative
  • Comfortable in fast-paced or unpredictable environments
  • Interested in law, policy, politics, public relations, or civic engagement
  • Able to work 3–4 days per week in person (flexible scheduling)
  • Professional appearance and demeanor when representing the firm at the Capitol

Compensation

This is an unpaid internship with an opportunity College credit available upon request.
