Overview 

The MMS BD Excellence & Business Transformation team is seeking an Associate Director, Business Process Excellence for the Medication Management Solutions (MMS) business unit in San Diego, CA. The Associate Director will work under the direction of the Sr. Director MMS BD Excellence and partner with business leadership, Operations Strategy, and the BD Excellence business system deployment team to identify and deliver on high-impact transactional business process optimization and improvement initiatives aligned with the strategic priorities of the global MMS business unit. This role will deliver best-in-class problem-solving and workshop facilitation and process management systems and tools to drive transformation, business process improvement, and enable a continuous improvement culture. 

Key Responsibilities 

Inspire operational excellence – As a leader in the global MMS BU assigned to the MMS BDE Excellence team, you will: 

  • Champion the BD Way (BD’s values and principles) to promote a culture of excellence, customer-centricity, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Reflect standards of BD Excellence in your leadership, your individual and team behavior and outputs, and the collective outcomes of your team.

  • Continuously scan inside and outside BD to benchmark, identify best practices, and push the broader team to achieve excellence. 

Drive strategic process improvement – As a skilled problem-solver, you will:  

  • Identify and execute high-impact operating model and business process improvement projects aligned to MMS strategic initiatives and goals across customer experience, quality, revenue, and gross profit. 

  • Set the standard for world class problem-solving and kaizen event workshop preparation and facilitation, enabling teams to rapidly address complex business problems. 

  • Advise executive sponsors and senior leaders on how to enable sustainment of outcomes of process improvement projects, from daily visual management and leader standard work to recommendations on organizational design and operating model. 

  • Install visual daily management tools and transfer continuous improvement knowledge and skills to process owners

  • Manage Business Process Excellence team portfolio and schedule of project-based work transparently and convene regular operating mechanisms to ensure rapid delivery and learning. 

Build and scale excellence capabilities – As a team leader and Certified Practitioner of the BD Excellence tools, you will: 

  • Lead, coach, and develop direct reports. 

  • Lead capability-building efforts across MMS by delivering targeted training, coaching, and enablement programs that drive adoption of BD Excellence tools and frameworks. 

  • Become a Certified Practitioner in the BD Excellence Fundamentals toolkit, including problem-solving, process improvement, and kaizen event methodologies.  

  • Design and implement scalable approaches to embed process ownership, performance management, and operational discipline into daily business rhythms. 

  • Partner with leaders across functions and geographies to foster a mindset of continuous improvement, strategic execution, and operational excellence 

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, supply chain, management information systems, technology, or a related field

Experience:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in business process consulting, process improvement, or strategy and operations roles
  • 5+ years of experience driving enterprise process improvement and transformation
  • 3+ years of experience using software technologies and tools to support business process optimization
  • 3+ years of experience working at a company with a focus on operational excellence in Healthcare, Med Tech, Pharma, or Life Sciences
  • 3+ years of experience facilitating workshops and events or training transactional process improvement methodologies
  • 3+ years of experience managing high-visibility programs with executive-level stakeholders
  • Experience using lean, six sigma, or other structured problem-solving methodologies specifically in commercial, customer service, or shared services functions
  • Experience with implementing visual daily management tools
  • Experience with capability-building and training programs

Location/Availability:

  • This is an office-based hybrid role in San Diego, CA.
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are required in-office days each week.
  • Travel up to 50% for workshops and training, mainly domestic with minimal international travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: MBA or relevant advanced degree
  • Certification as a trainer or facilitator
  • Certified practitioner in lean tools
