Job Summary:
To assist the Symphony Orchestra director (Dr. Lewis) in duties directly relating to the ensemble, and to a greater extent, the String Department. Primarily responsibilities will include preparing, distributing, collecting, and maintaining the music for the string and symphony orchestra library. Setup and tear-down for rehearsals, in addition to taking attendance at every rehearsal, sectional and concert are also core responsibilities. Will also assist with marketing via Instagram, X, and Facebook accounts for the CSUSB String and Orchestral Program in consultation with Dr. Lewis.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Under direct supervision, duties include but not limited to:
- Assume responsibility for preparing all music and folders for rehearsals. All photocopies will be destroyed after usage.
- Folder distribution, collecting music after a performance, and recovering missing parts will also be the responsibility of the orchestra assistant, in addition to returning any rentals in a timely manner according to the rental contract (so as to avoid being charged a fine).
- Maintain the integrity and organization of the string and symphony orchestra library.
- Take attendance at every rehearsal, sectional, and concert.
- Setup and teardown chairs and stands for rehearsals, sectionals, and concerts.
- Consult with Director of the Orchestral Program, Dr. Lucy Lewis, and create weekly posts in all social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook).
- Other duties as needed and outlined by Dr. Lewis.
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card
- Promptness, effective communication and organization skills, and attention to detail. Orchestra assistant must maintain a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate continued improvement in their applied instrumental studies.
Compensation and Benefits:
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.

Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).
This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.
As of January 1, 2022, the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.

Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Driver's License Check
Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
