Definition

This paid internship offers flexible hours and a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a progressive public sector organization. Interns will gain a further understanding of organizational policies and practices. Candidate must be able to work variable hours per week.

During your tenure at the City of Davenport, you will have the opportunity to develop transferable skills, including problem-solving, customer service, effective communication, teamwork, leadership, attention to detail, time management, personal empowerment, self-confidence, and responsibility.

This position will be open until filled.

Examples Of Duties

  • Coordinating and preparing the bi-annual community survey.
  • Assisting with summer events coordination and implementation.
  • Drafting and preparing communications content.
  • Researching and preparing memorandums as assigned.
  • Assist the City Administrator, Department Directors, and Managers with daily office operations.
  • Assist in the development of potential and current programs.
  • May participate in departmental meetings and agendas.
  • Assist staff in other related special projects.
Qualifications

Masters student in Public Administration, Business, Communications, Public Policy, or a related field of study.

Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City of Davenport.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Desire to learn and apply education.
  • Must have critical thinking, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to make presentations to large groups.
  • Skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are highly desirable.
  • Must also be independent and self-reliant, a motivated individual with attention to detail and timeliness.
