Job Description

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Administrative Manager in the Bureau of Legal Affairs. Reporting directly to the Director of Enforcement, the successful candidate will: have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment. The candidate will supervise the data input of the FDNY Summonses and Criminal Court Summonses. He/she will generate monthly reports for the Criminal Court Summonses and FDNY Summonses. He/she will coordinate with the Fire Marshals and Court Representatives (Criminal) on the execution of the warrants. The successful candidate will regularly meet with the public and outside agency representatives on issues involving the administrative and enforcement of criminal court summonses and summonses heard before the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (“OATH”). He/she will be actively involved with the distribution and coordination of the FDNY summonses and Criminal Court summonses. He/she will perform administrative work necessary for the conducting of hearings in both criminal court and OATH hearings. He/she will be involved with the continued development and implementation of the new Fire Inspection Revenue and Enforcement System (FIRES) as it relates to the Administrative Enforcement Unit. He/she will be responsible for regularly attending meetings that involve the development of policy within the Administrative Enforcement Unit. He/she will advise the Director of Enforcement and the Deputy Director of Enforcement regarding key issues affecting both the Legal Enforcement Unit and the Administrative Enforcement Unit. He/she will be responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of the work flow between the cure desk and the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Also, the candidate will be responsible for administrative tasks related to Legal Enforcement, including but not limited scheduling adjournments for the testimony of issuing officers and the electronic filing of OATH decisions.

Qualifications

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience requiring independent decision-making concerning program management or planning, allocation for resources and the scheduling and assignment of work, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or

  2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in "1" above, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or

  3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of

satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in "1"

above, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial,

executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the

supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than

moderate difficulty; or

  1. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all

candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1", "2" or "3" above. Education above

the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative

experience (but not for the administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory

experience described in "1", "2" or "3" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits

from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3½

years.
