Position Description

This is a junior GIS Developer position with Metro's Information Technology Services GIS Division. This position will design, develop, and maintain tools to support Metro's Enterprise GIS system and related GIS datasets. This position will support the development of automated workflows and integration of other systems with Metro's GIS systems. This position may work with other ITS teams to provide developer support and will assist with patching and maintenance of Metro's Enterprise GIS system.
**Information Technology Services (ITS) is a 24x7 information technology shop. Applicant must be willing and available to perform duties as required by the job. This may include work on nights, weekends and holidays and may include overtime hours but only as necessary. **

The men and women in Metro's Information Technology Services (ITS) department work 24-7 to ensure optimum communications both within Metro and between Metro and the general public. Multiple IT teams work to ensure information safety and efficient and effective business transactions.***Your resume must be attached to the application in order to be considered***

Typical Duties

  • Develop custom applications, add-ins, and widgets for use in Metro's Enterprise GIS platform.
  • Assist in patching and maintaining GIS architecture.
  • Review and update existing code as needed.
  • Organize scripts and documentation in GitLab.
  • Collaborate with end users on scripting projects for automation and ETL tools.
  • Prepare technical documentation including data specifications, user requirements, and procedures.
  • Understanding of the data, functions, and tasks that the GIS applications will support.
Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in Python 3.x, ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, React, TypeScript, and Visual Studio, including proficiency in code development and change tracking.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience building custom widgets using React and TypeScript for Experience Builder
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise components
  • Experience using GitLab as a code repository
  • Experience in Python 3.x, ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, and Visual Studio
  • Considerable problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience using ESRI GIS systems and developing custom widgets or add-ins for ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Pro
