YMCA Camp Carter is a beautiful 360-acre summer camp located right in the heart of Fort Worth, TX. We are seeking an Assistant Overnight Camp Director to help lead our summer overnight camp program. This seasonal leadership role is perfect for someone passionate about youth development, team building, and creating unforgettable camp experiences. The Assistant Camp Director works closely with the Program Director and leadership team to ensure smooth daily operations, staff support, and camper safety.

This is not your typical day camp job it's a full immersion experience Overnight Camp Counselors live on-site, provide cabin supervision at night, and create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment 24/7. Counselors receive one day off per week and rotate nights off during the season. If you love building deep connections, leading adventures, and creating lifelong memories, this is the role for you.

Schedule & Commitment

  • Overnight Camp begins on June 14th and runs through June 25th.
  • Living On-Site:
    • Overnight Camp Counselors must commit to living onsite in staff housing for the duration of the camp season.
    • Housing and meals provided during camp sessions.
  • Time Off: One day off per week + scheduled nights off.
  • Commitment: Overnight camp is a commitment The days are long but rewarding
Essential Functions

The Assistant Camp Director plays a key role in delivering a safe, fun, and impactful summer experience. Responsibilities include:
  • Leadership & Supervision: Support and mentor camp counselors and activity leaders; assist with scheduling, staff check-ins, and performance feedback.
  • Program Oversight: Help plan and execute engaging camp activities that align with YMCA values and camper development goals.
  • Camper Experience: Ensure campers feel welcomed, included, and supported; assist with behavior management and conflict resolution.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain proper ratios, oversee swim safety, monitor health and wellness, and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Culture & Spirit: Model camp enthusiasm by participating in traditions, leading songs, and fostering a positive, energetic environment.
  • Communication: Serve as a point of contact for staff and families by either opening or closing camp daily; provide updates and address concerns professionally.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age: 21+
  • Previous experience in camp leadership, youth programming, or team supervision preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an active outdoor environment and maintain high energy throughout the day.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Compensation
  • All overnight camp staff are paid on a stipend basis in bi-weekly chunks.
  • Assistant Camp Director - $720 per week
