General Job Description

Summary:

The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the finance and accounting operations of the organization. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, assisting with month-end and year-end close processes, and supporting audits. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and proficient in accounting principles and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post general ledger journal entries, including accruals and adjustments.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules and depreciation.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce reports as needed.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing schedules and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and internal controls.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of general accounting experience
  • Public accounting experience or CPA licensure is a plus but not required.
Technical Skills:
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks).
Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in construction, utilities, or service-based industries.
  • Familiarity with project accounting or cost accounting.
  • Exposure to multi-entity or multi-location accounting.
Working Conditions:
  • Standard office environment.
  • May require extended hours during financial reporting periods.
