Purpose of Position:

The Strategic Priorities Manager , under the general supervision of the Director of Summer Learning & Data Strategy, is responsible for the planning, implementation, and collaboration of educational projects within the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD). These projects are designed to transform educational practices, addressing the evolving needs of both students and the community. This position specifically involves managing the Summer Semester Program and leading one to two additional projects within MMSD.

This position supports our district's mission and strategic framework by leading and collaborating with other departments in an effort to direct key projects, including summer semester programming, and working cross-functionally at a district level to ensure that district-level supports enable and support the work of school-level practitioners. This position works closely with all departments across the organization, making sure projects align with strategic goals, support change management, and ensure the commitment of resources and timelines for assigned projects.

This position will require a high degree of integrity, sustain a culture of continuous improvement, and be committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive work environment, with a growth mindset in a multi-faceted operation and a focus on fostering a positive work culture.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manage the Administrative Clerk Senior in charge of summer semester programming.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Summer Program Strategy & Planning (25%)
  1. Develop and implement a districtwide vision and strategic plan for high-quality summer semester programming that supports year-round student learning and engagement
  2. Establish annual goals and success metrics in alignment with district priorities and state requirements
  3. Manage an annual $4 million budget, ensuring fiscal accountability and alignment with program goals
  1. Summer Program Operations (20%)
  1. Provide overall leadership and coordination of 4K-12 summer semester operations
  2. Coordinate with central office and other district departments to manage operational logistics for summer semester programs, including hiring staff, managing enrollment, purchasing and addressing other operational needs
  3. Implement policy and procedures for summer semester in alignment with MSCR and after-school programming, as well as the district vision
  4. Direct and support summer principals and Central Office Leadership during the summer semester to ensure fidelity
  5. Ensure compliance with district policies (e.g., Policy #3537) and state mandates
  1. Summer Program Equity & Collaborative Partnerships (10%)
  1. Work collaboratively with the Department of Special Education, Multilingual Programs & Services and the Transition Education Program to ensure equitable access and participation for all students
  2. Collaborate with the Department of Career, College, and Community Readiness and Curriculum and Instruction staff to develop a systematic approach to Credit Recovery, access to online coursework, and other innovative options that extend from the school year into the summer.
  3. Build effective relationships with internal departments, school leaders and community partners to strengthen program implementation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

  • Demonstrated ability in the use of data to improve student learning and in the design and implementation of professional learning experiences to enhance adult use of instructional and assessment practices.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with budgeting, resource allocation, and financial oversight
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral, written, digital, and web-based formats
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field
  • Experience with project management in an educational setting, non-profit, or public sector
  • Experience in a leadership role managing projects from concept to completion in an educational institution.
  • Experience in educational leadership and collaborating with cross-functional teams
License Requirements:
  • Current Wisconsin DPI Administrator Principal (5051) License

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury. This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and may involve walking, sitting, stooping, or reaching. This position also requires preparing summer materials, which includes, but is not limited to, packing materials by site, organizing pallets & preparing them for delivery. Manual dexterity is necessary for completing general tasks while operating office equipment. This position may require being stationary for extended periods of time.

Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas where temperatures may be uncomfortable or fluctuate rapidly.

Working Conditions:
  1. Work requires travel to different locations within the district and to off-site meetings.
  2. Position requires working evenings, nights, and some weekends.
  3. Certain positions within the District may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit.
