Description

Summary : Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Supply Chain leads the end to end sourcing,

procurement, logistics, and fulfillment of food products to ensure our community has access to enough

nutritious food to thrive. In partnership with the Director of Operations, the DSC will also co-design the

procurement of non-food operational supplies essential to distribution, partner service, and warehouse safety,

ensuring cost efficiency and vendor alignment with organizational standards.

The Director is responsible for overseeing the continued development and execution of Second Harvest's

Product Sourcing Plan, ensuring that sourcing strategies are data-informed, mission-driven, and aligned with

the organization's nutrition, equity, and efficiency goals. This role ensures the reliability, efficiency, safety, and

quality of the products moving through our network.

The Director develops and governs the systems, processes, and partnerships that enable a customer-centric

experience for agencies and program guests. This role collaborates closely with the Director of Optimization

to integrate technology, data, and continuous improvement into core supply chain operations.

The Director oversees food sourcing and procurement, logistics, order fulfillment, and quality assurance

functions, ensuring strong coordination and alignment across the organization.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Strategic Supply Chain Leadership

  • Develop a multi year strategy for a resilient, equitable, and cost effective food supply chain.
  • Ensure sourcing, logistics, and quality functions operate as a fully integrated system.
  • Lead strategic planning and annual budgeting for supply chain operations.
  • Track and improve key performance indicators across the supply chain.
  • Oversee the ongoing implementation and evolution of the organization's Product Sourcing Plan, ensuring cross-departmental collaboration, accountability, and measurable progress toward goals.
Food Sourcing and Purchasing
  • Implement and manage donor stewardship plans for all donor partners, including donation receipts/reports, and regular communications about donation impact and relevant food bank news.
  • Analyze donor trends; stay current on local, regional, and national food industry trends and issues.
  • Identify barriers to donation flow and recommend and implement comprehensive solutions in partnership with internal and external partners.
  • Lead team that works with donors to resolve quality issues, and to obtain date extensions and ingredient information as needed.
  • Work with regional Feeding America platforms and produce cooperatives to forecast and order appropriate amounts and varieties of fresh produce; arranging transportation to SHFB as part of this sourcing strategy.
  • Participate in community food advocacy and trade organizations as needed.
  • Collaborate with the development team to create and deliver consistent and compelling messaging to donors of both food and funds.
  • Collaborate with Development and Partnerships & Programs teams to identify and execute grant funded opportunities to expand capacity at the food bank or agency level.
  • Attend food industry events, including trade shows, association meetings, and network conferences (may include travel outside our service area or outside Wisconsin).
  • Maintain strong relationship with Feeding America food sourcing team; use Grocery Program platform to order or benchmark purchased items and freight costs.
  • Verify invoices for accuracy and compliance with conditions of purchase, including price, quality, and quantity; lead issue resolution, requesting revisions and/or refunds as necessary.
  • Perform any other duties as needed to fulfill our mission, drive our vision and abide by our values.
Logistics, Order Fulfillment, and Quality Assurance
  • Manage Logistics and Order Fulfillment team , ensuring accurate and timely order fulfillment that supports a high quality partner experience.
  • Maintain clear communication on product availability and inventory status.
  • In partnership with Operations Leadership , continuously improve operational throughput and reduce waste.
  • Govern food safety systems, audits, and recall readiness.
  • Set product quality standards and ensure consistent adherence.
  • Partner with the Director of Operations on AIB audit.
  • Ensure staff are trained and compliant with all safety and handling procedures.
Cross Functional Leadership and Collaboration
  • Partner closely with the Director of Partnerships & Community Impact to ensure excellent customer service and a seamless experience for agency partners and program guests.
  • Work with Programs and Community Impact teams to align product offerings with community needs, cultural relevance, and nutrition priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations and Director of Optimization to ensure capacity, workflows, and technology enable a high performing and fully integrated supply chain.
  • Provide transparent communication and visibility into product availability, quality, and distribution readiness.
  • Respond to emerging needs and feedback from agencies and community partners with urgency and accountability.
  • Evaluate program performance and make data-driven strategic adjustments to meet or exceed program goals.
  • Host food industry member visits and tours, maximizing relationships to generate awareness, monetary support, and volunteerism.
Team Leadership and Development
  • Supervise professional staff and teams responsible for sourcing, logistics, and quality.
  • Set goals, measure performance, and ensure role clarity across the supply chain.

  • Experience working with inventory management software is desired.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in supply chain, business, or related field
  • Three or more years of experience in supply chain, procurement, food systems, or logistics
  • Experience building and managing external partnerships
  • Demonstrated multi-channel leadership experience
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within service area
  • Food Safety Manager Certification
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in nonprofit or hunger relief operations
  • Experience using ERP and inventory management systems
  • Minimum of two years of food safety/quality experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Two years' experience within a warehouse environment; inventory experience desired.
  • One Year experience building relationships with external vendors or partners.

Salary Range:
  • $72,600 - $90,700/based on experience

This job operates in a professional office environment, and in the distribution center. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to working near moving mechanical parts. This job also requires travel within our service area for purposes of meetings and food donor visits.
