Mid-Level Personnel Security Specialist

The Mid-Level Personnel Security Specialist plays a vital role within the Consolidated Personnel Security Center (CPSC). This position involves processing security clearances with the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ensuring candidates meet eligibility requirements for access.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct pre-screen assessments for Security clearance eligibility, including Secret, DHS Fitness, and Top-Secret Security clearances.
Independently evaluate candidate eligibility and security clearance requests.
Initiate security clearance requests using eApp for new clearances, DHS Fitness, and periodic updates for DoD and DHS.
Review SF86 forms for accuracy and coordinate corrections with employees before submission to government for processing.
Verify individual security clearances in DISS, Scattered Castles, and DHS databases to ensure investigations are complete and accurate.
Assist in compiling and submitting monthly metrics as directed by management.
Follow up on requests for documentation from DCSA and DHS.
Help candidates in completing SF 86 and SF 85 forms.
Maintain the SIMS database and generate status reports for Field Security Officers, Cyber Security Security Officers, and leadership.
Communicate with DCSA and DHS representatives regarding clearance actions, making informed decisions to resolve issues.
Ensure that policies, procedures, and desk guides are updated and adhered to.
Produce RAND employee badges and manage accountability within the SIMS system.
Grant and remove building access in the access control system.
Manage and resolve JIRA tickets as assigned.
Stay informed about emerging technologies, building professional relationships, and attending occasional technology conferences.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate's degree preferred.
Required Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Familiar with SIMS, DISS, NBIS (replacing DISS), Scattered Castles SWFT, and eApp.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and make timely decisions affecting clearance processing.
Security Clearance
Must meet eligibility requirements for access to U.S. government classified information.

This position is 100% onsite.
Salary: $64,400-$96,100
RAND considers various factors when formulating an offer, including job responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and internal equity. Successful candidates will receive employment in a specific title determined by their qualifications. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND's sabbatical compensation, providing additional income during vacation.
