Position Summary

The Accounting Manager leads the day-to-day accounting function and is accountable for accurate, timely financial reporting and a strong control environment. This role owns A/R, A/P, G/L, month-end close, cash management support, and management reporting, while guiding Accounting Specialists and partnering closely with Operations, Dispatch, and Leadership. The Accounting Manager drives process improvement, ensures GAAP compliance, and provides decision-support analysis (e.g., lane/customer profitability, cost trends) to improve margin and cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

1) Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, develop, and coach Accounting Specialists (A/R, A/P, Billing); set goals, assign workloads, and conduct first-level reviews.
• Establish close calendars, cutoffs, SOPs, and service-level targets; ensure adherence across the team.
• Foster a culture of accountability, data integrity, and continuous improvement.

2) Accounting Operations (A/R, A/P, Billing)

• Oversee accurate/timely A/R billing (including accessorials: detention, demurrage, chassis) and credit/collections activities to manage DSO.
• Oversee A/P end-to-end (3-way match, vendor master governance, disbursements, employee expenses, corporate cards).
• Ensure vendor/customer setup, terms, and documentation meet policy and audit requirements; manage escalations with customers and vendors.

3) Month-End Close & General Ledger

• Own the monthly close (JEs, accruals, reclasses, reconciliations, schedules) within the agreed close calendar.
• Maintain G/L integrity, chart of accounts discipline, and accuracy of G/L coding, rate tables, and freight/accessorial mappings.
• Prepare and review P&L and balance sheet with variance analyses, by operation/route/customer where applicable.

4) Financial Reporting, Analysis & Planning Support

• Produce executive-ready monthly financial packages, KPIs, and dashboards; highlight trends, variances, risks, and opportunities.
• Support budgeting/forecasting; perform ad hoc profitability and cost trend analyses (by vendor, lane, customer, and G/L).
• Partner with Operations/Management on cost reduction, pricing support, and profitability initiatives.

5) Treasury & Cash Management Support

• Monitor daily bank balances; coordinate disbursement timing and working-capital actions with the CFO.
• Prepare short-term cash flow projections; track drivers of cash inflows/outflows and recommend improvements.

6) Compliance, Tax, and Audit

• Ensure adherence to GAAP, internal controls, and company policies; strengthen segregation of duties and documentation.
• Coordinate with external accountants on audits/reviews; prepare PBC (Prepared By Client) listings and respond to requests.
• Oversee sales/use tax filings support, W-9 collection, and 1099 reporting (in coordination with external tax partners as needed).

7) Systems, Data & Process Improvement

• Optimize QuickBooks (or ERP) usage; champion automation (A/P workflow, bank feeds, and etc).
• Improve data quality and governance across TMS/ERP integrations to support timely close and reporting.
• Identify and implement process enhancements that reduce cycle time and error rates.

Measurable Goals

• Close completed on schedule with clean reconciliations and minimal post-close adjustments.
• DSO and A/P on-time payment rates within targets; early-payment discounts and avoidance of late fees tracked and improved.
• Zero material control deficiencies; audit requests satisfied on time.
• Accuracy and timeliness of management reporting; KPIs published per calendar.
• Documented process/SOP improvements yielding measurable efficiency or accuracy gains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (required).
• MBA or advanced degree in a relevant discipline strongly preferred.
• 5+ years progressive accounting experience with direct ownership of A/R, A/P, G/L, and month-end close.
• 2+ years leading or supervising accounting staff (team leadership, reviews, workload coordination).
• Transportation/logistics/trucking industry experience preferred; multi-entity/multi-state exposure a plus
• Direct oversight of Accounting Specialists and related roles (A/R, A/P, Billing); responsible for hiring, training, performance feedback, and workload/capacity planning.
• Hands-on A/P ownership, month-end close participation, and account reconciliations required.
• Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups/index-match, Power Query/Power Pivot; basic modeling).
• ERP/accounting systems expertise; QuickBooks preferred.
• Familiarity with A/P automation, expense/reporting platforms (e.g., Concur/Expensify), and banking portals.
• BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI/Tableau) a plus.
• Strong command of GAAP, internal controls, and audit readiness.
• Analytical, detail-oriented, and organized; proven problem-solver with bias for action.
• Clear communicator with executive-ready writing and presentation skills.
• Cross-functional collaborator; able to influence without authority.
• Able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment; high integrity and discretion.
• Ability to lead, coach, and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment.

• Bilingual in Korean is preferred but not required.

Work Schedule and Location

• Standard workweek: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Occasional support for after-hours as required.
• Primary work location is Duluth, GA.
• Occasional travel to branch offices (Mobile, AL / Savannah, GA / Oakland, CA) may be required.
