Description

Consolidated Asset Management Services (CAMS) is a leading provider of project, asset management, commercial, and operational services to the power generation, exploration & production (E&P), and midstream sectors of the energy industry. We are seeking a highly motivated Accounting Intern to join our dynamic finance team in Houston, TX. This role offers hands-on experience in corporate accounting, financial analysis, and reporting, providing an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to CAMS' financial operations.

The Accounting Intern will maintain accurate financial records, ensure proper recording of transactions, and support senior accountants in preparing critical financial statements, including balance sheets and profit and loss statements. The intern will also assist in analyzing costs, revenues, and financial commitments to forecast future performance and support strategic decision-making. This position is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a graduation date of December 2026 or May 2027, who is eager to develop practical skills in a fast-paced, professional environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Assist in preparing and reviewing financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Journal Entries and Reconciliation: Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts monthly, and resolve discrepancies promptly to maintain accurate financial records.
  • End-of-Summer Presentation: Develop and deliver a comprehensive presentation to the CEO and leadership team, summarizing key projects, financial insights, and recommendations based on internship work.
  • Vendor and Payment Coordination: Collaborate with accounts payable and treasury teams to streamline vendor setup, verify payment accuracy, and ensure timely disbursements.
  • Data Analysis and Forecasting: Compile and analyze financial data to support budgeting, forecasting, and cost management initiatives, providing actionable insights to senior accountants.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes, such as automating repetitive tasks or improving data entry accuracy, and propose solutions to the Accounting Manager.
  • Audit Support: Assist in preparing documentation and schedules for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ad-Hoc Projects: Support the Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager with special projects, such as financial modeling, variance analysis, or system implementations, as assigned.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (e.g., operations, procurement) to gather financial data and ensure alignment on project budgets and expenditures.
  • Compliance and Documentation:Maintain organized records of financial transactions and ensure adherence to company policies and industry regulations.
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills
  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, with an expected graduation date of December 2026 or May 2027.
  • GPA: Minimum 3.0 GPA (3.5 or higher preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros) and familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar). Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze financial data and identify trends or discrepancies.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, to present findings clearly to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to financial record-keeping and reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Initiative and Time Management: Self-starter with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
