Job Summary:
The Histotechnologist performs both routine and complex histological procedures to prepare tissue samples for microscopic evaluation by pathologists. This role ensures the accurate preparation, processing, and staining of tissue specimens while maintaining compliance with all safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to train and mentor others in histology best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform all duties of a Histotechnician I and II, including accessioning, embedding, and microtomy of tissue samples.
  • Prepare and stain slides using Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) procedures, manual or automated.
  • Perform and validate special stains and prepare associated reagents and control materials.
  • May assist with immunohistochemistry (IHC) reagent preparation and testing.
  • Maintain and document quality control (QC) and instrument maintenance per CLIA, CAP, and company standards.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and document remedial actions.
  • Provide training and guidance to histotechnicians, students, and lab aides.
  • Follow all laboratory safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
  • Participate in continuous process improvement activities to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Required Experience:
  • Previous histology laboratory experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree (BS) and ASCP HT certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of histologic processing, embedding, and staining.
Required Skills:
  • Expertise in tissue preparation, embedding, sectioning, and staining.
  • High attention to detail and ability to identify errors or artifacts.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience performing special stains and IHC testing.
  • Familiarity with laboratory automation and information systems.
  • Leadership skills to mentor peers and support training programs.
Additional Skills:
  • Knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and corporate quality control procedures.
  • Proven ability to perform remedial actions and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience preparing solutions, reagents, and quality control materials.
Shift/Hours:
3:00 AM - 1:30 PM
