The Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospice program to include:

Operations:
  • Planning, directing and evaluating operations to ensure the provision of adequate and appropriate care and services to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensures the operations meets and exceeds accrediting organization standards
  • Assuring that all business conduct is above minimum standards required by law and will not condone any activities that achieve results through violation of the law, unethical business or patient care practices.
  • Implementing governing body directives and ensuring that appropriate service policies are developed and enforced.
  • Informing the governing body, and staff of current organizational, community, and industry trends.
  • Participates in an annual strategic planning meeting with the governing body
  • Gathers, collates, and reports key operating statistics through the effective utilization of information systems.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, managing and directing all information systems including financial systems, patient care systems, and general office systems.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes to educate staff accordingly
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the electronic health record system.
Fiscal Planning:
  • Fiscal planning, budgeting and management of operations in accordance with fiscal parameters.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, managing and directing the financial performance of Suburban Hospice including budget preparations, financial and statistical reporting, cost reporting, accounts payable, billing and accounts receivable management.
  • Directs all daily financial business operations and implements financial policies, accounting systems and cost controls in coordination with the accounting team.
  • Directs the implementation of improved work methods and procedures to ensure financial record systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and ACHC accreditation standards.
  • Directs the management of all accounting information systems including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, financial reporting, and statistical reporting systems.
  • Ensures maximum third party reimbursement through efficient billing and collections operations, effective accounts receivable management and a thorough understanding of cost reimbursement principles.
  • Prepares the annual budget, monitors allocation of funds within budgetary limitations, prepares budget variation reports for the review and approval of the Governing Body.
  • Protects the assets of the organization through effective internal controls, internal auditing, insurance coverage, and direct supervision of financial operations.
  • Ensures proper utilization of organization resources through control of cash disbursements via an effective accounts payable system.
  • Prepares and files periodic financial statements for internal users, authorized third parties and regulatory agencies on an ongoing basis.
  • Evaluates financial provisions of proposed contracts and agreements for provision of services to optimize financial viability of the agreements.
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Recruiting, employing and retaining qualified personnel to maintain appropriate staffing levels.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective channels of communication.
  • Ensuring agency personnel meet or exceed basic qualifications
  • Ensuring that a clinical manager and adequate supervision is available during all operating hours.
  • Directing and monitoring organizational performance improvement activities.
  • Ensuring staff development including orientation, in-service education, continuing education, and evaluation of staff.
  • Assuring the development and qualifications for professional services and the assignment of personnel.
  • Represents the organization to the public, government agencies and other organizations
  • Networks to be able to use peer group as a resource for problem solving.
  • Demonstrates strong, accurate decision making capabilities.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and improves the organization's Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows organization policies regarding the applicable National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Serves as coordinator of all Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Business or a related field. Master's degree in health care related field preferred
  • At least 5 years' experience in the hospice field required
  • At least 5 years' management experience in the health care industry required
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel
  • A thorough understanding of federal (CMS Medicare Hospice Conditions of Participation) and Indiana state hospice regulations
  • Demonstrates good communication and public relations skills
