Senior Backend Engineer

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within our dynamic Engineering teams in EMEA. This position offers the flexibility of being fully remote, allowing you to work from various locations, including the UK, Ireland, Estonia, Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, as well as from Eastern Europe and Portugal as a contractor.

We are in search of a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives at the intersection of large-scale data systems and modern backend development. This role combines data pipeline engineering, distributed system design, and multi-cloud proficiency, aiding in the evolution of our DoiT Cloud Intelligence (DCI) product. You will be instrumental in building and scaling backend services while integrating billing and usage data across different cloud platforms to ensure our systems are reliable, efficient, and cost-effective. Moreover, you will influence core platform engineering by designing APIs, developing tools, and enhancing the services that drive our product suite.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale robust backend services using Go and TypeScript, seamlessly integrating with large-scale data pipelines.
• Collaborate closely with the billing data team to analyze, optimize, and ensure the accuracy of cloud billing data.
• Work in partnership with engineering teams to enhance data pipelines and integrate them into product-facing services.
• Contribute to platform code and infrastructure that underpins billing calculations and cloud analytics.
• Implement monitoring, observability, and reliability practices for both backend services and data systems.
• Champion best practices concerning backend architecture, data processing, and system design in multi-cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, specifically with large-scale data systems in production.
• Proficient programming skills in Go and/or TypeScript; Python is a valuable plus.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and maintaining scalable APIs and services.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and familiarity with analytical databases such as BigQuery, ClickHouse, Redshift, or Snowflake.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS and GCP.
• Familiarity with AWS billing and cost optimization is a significant advantage.
• Confident in collaborating across product and engineering teams.
• Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
• Self-driven, adaptable, and effective in a fast-paced environment.
• A good sense of humor and a passion for enjoying your work.

Bonus Qualifications

• BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in performance tuning and cost optimization for large-scale data systems.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and contemporary DevOps practices.
