Position Description

The City of Inver Grove Heights seeks a Maintenance professional to work at our Veteran's Memorial Community Center.
The 2026 hiring range for this position is $32.23 to $35.96/hr., depending on experience. This is a fulltime IOUE-70 union position with benefits.
The Shift for this position is Wednesday - Friday 4:30am-2:30pm, and Saturday 5:30am-3:30pm

Under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent, the VMCC Maintenance Worker is responsible for providing facility preventive maintenance and repair responsibilities to Veteran Memorial Community Center equipment and the general operation of the facility.
Essential Job Functions

Performs a variety of mechanical, HVAC and electrical and plumbing preventive maintenance and/or repair activities to include:
• Repairs and/or replacement of light fixtures, emergency lights, ballasts, switches or bulbs.
• Monitors, repairs, services and/or adjusts BAS control system.
• Monitors and fills boilers.
• Monitors and/or repairs AHU, MUA and RTU.
• Replaces filters, tightens and replaces belts, greases bearings, replaces motors, and actuators.
• Inspects and cleans condensing coils and air intakes.
• Monitors the refrigeration system for the ice rinks and tests cooling tower water.
• Maintains, drives and services equipment in the ice arena

Communicates with facility staff and supervisor concerning facility needs, repairs and need for contracted services. Schedules, monitors and oversees the activities of outside contractors performing repair and services. Obtains bids for service, repair projects at the request of supervisor. Monitors and assesses the facility to identify any preventive maintenance or repair needs/requirements.

Orders materials, supplies, parts and/or equipment to perform repair and maintenance activities.

Performs general and routine plumbing repairs to include:
• Repairs toilets and urinals.
• Repairs and services drinking fountains and showers in locker rooms.
• Replaces fixtures, valves and shutoffs.

Maintains and services aquatic pools including:
• Maintains swimming pools, slides and play structures.
• Performs annual maintenance of pools.
• Takes chemical readings and adjusts pool chemicals in accordance with State guidelines and regulations.
• Repairs and/or coordinates the repair of pumps, motors, UV, filters and chemical feed systems.

Assists in snow and ice removal of facility sidewalks, exits and entry areas.

Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.
Qualifications
Requires a minimum of 2 years building maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the work. Valid MN driver's license. AFO or CPO license, First Aid Certification, Adult CPR/AED. Requires a Special Class Boiler license within a reasonable time after hire.

• Knowledge of basic general building maintenance procedures including basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing maintenance activities.
• Knowledge of pool operation, maintenance and service requirements.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance requirements of HVAC, refrigeration and related equipment/controls.
• Knowledge of computer operation in monitoring, adjusting and controlling HVAC system.
• Operation of ice rink refrigeration systems, pumps and motors and ice surfacing equipment.
• Knowledge of procedures and requirements associated with building and maintenance of ice sheets, rink operation and maintenance of Zamboni.

• Conducting routine preventive maintenance activities and repairs involving a general mechanical, electrical, plumbing nature.
• Communicating with city staff and supervisor concerning facility needs, meeting schedules, and repair requirements.

Work Environment:
The work involves some potential hazards and risks associated with exposure to various hazardous chemicals, fumes; working at heights on lifts, on roof tops, or confined spaces; physical injury from operating power equipment and hand tools. Duties are performed indoors/outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. The work environment involves exposure to materials and situations that requires following safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment or safety procedures.

Physical Job Requirements:
Employee is constantly walking and standing; frequently using hands and fingers dexterously to handle or feel, talks, hears and listens, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches and/or crawls; and on occasion sits in the performance of the job. Exerting up to 100 lbs. pounds of force on occasion; up to 50 lbs. frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
