The Reliability Engineering team plays a vital role in supporting our engineering teams to create the most reliable software possible. As a core service team, we collaborate closely with other engineering teams, constantly seeking the latest industry best practices. Through education and advocacy, we embed reliability into our engineering culture, empowering our teams to build reliable software independently.

  • Enhance observability, reliability, and availability by defining and tracking key metrics.

  • Automate processes to reduce manual operations work.

  • Work closely with our core infrastructure team to optimize cloud deployments (Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, EC2, etc.).

  • Collaborate with product teams to minimize service disruptions and automate incident responses.

  • Identify and address reliability issues across our infrastructure, creating software solutions for significant improvements.

  • Mentor and educate team members on making reliability a fundamental aspect of our engineering culture.

  • Write high-quality, thoroughly-tested code to meet customer needs.

  • Tackle complex technical problems to optimize systems and improve their operability.

  • Review designs for new features, ensuring they meet our operational standards.

  • Take ownership of security, performance, operational integrity, and clarity in architectural designs.

  • Create pipelines to integrate with external vendors.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation for prompt resolution of urgent issues.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in software engineering.

  • A background in designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services with a focus on service-oriented architecture.

  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, well-tested code.

  • A passion for creating an open financial system that connects people worldwide.

  • Strong technical skills in system design and coding.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a preference for open, transparent practices.

  • Expertise in observability, debugging, and performance tuning.

  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Proven interpersonal skills when collaborating with engineers of various experience levels.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking in high-pressure situations.

  • A readiness to dive into understanding, debugging, and enhancing any part of the tech stack.

  • This role requires on-call availability for urgent issue resolution outside regular hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in designing and building reliable high-throughput, low-latency systems.

  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Kibana or Datadog.

  • Background in fast-paced growth environments.

  • Experience with Ruby, Go, and Terraform.

  • Exposure to cloud services such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

  • Previous work on reliable systems, particularly in regulated industries.

  • Experience creating training materials and company blog posts.

  • Understanding of crypto, including onchain activities like interacting with Ethereum and utilizing blockchain-based services.

Pay Transparency Notice: The target annual salary for this position ranges from $140,250 to $165,000 depending on work location. Full-time offers from Coinbase may also include bonuses, equity, and benefits (such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
