Job Summary

The CAM Linux and Cloud Systems Administrator student assistant will build and support instructional and research computing infrastructure for use by students and faculty in the School of Computing, Analytics, & Modeling (CAM).

Responsibilities

• Linux operating system and network setup, administration, and troubleshooting on physical hardware endpoints (PC, Raspberry Pi, and other IoT devices), virtual machines, and cloud-based systems.
• Developing scripts and automation templates.
• Creating and maintaining systems inventory and documentation.
• Research and prototyping for various computing infrastructure solutions.
• The student assistant will work independently and as part of a team under the guidance and supervision of the CAM Innovation & Operations Manager.

Required Qualifications

• Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
• Must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher
• Must have completed COMP 2300 with a grade of B or better
• Must have completed COMP 2320 or CS 1302 with a grade of C or better
• Must be a UWG undergraduate Computing major in good Academic Standing
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as being an active and engaged team member.

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions

• Must be able to sit for periods of time while working at a computer.
• All work will be performed in an office/lab environment on the UWG Carrollton campus. This is not a remote position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong work ethics.
• Self-starter.
• Able to work with others in a group setting as part of a technical project team.
• Completion of COMP 3400 with B or better.

• Able to independently research and read technical material, tutorials, instructions, and documentation to find solutions to problems encountered.
