Newport News, VA, United States Leidos Full time

Description

Join our dynamic engineering team as a passionate and detail-oriented Lead Software Quality Assurance Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software systems, focusing on verifying system-level capabilities. Your involvement will begin early in the development cycle, working alongside systems engineers and developers to identify and create test cases and scenarios, including the development of feature files.

The responsibilities encompass all elements of manual software testing within an Agile, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Delivery framework. As a part of a high-performing team, your objective will be to deliver world-class solutions for our customers in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

This position allows for remote work; however, candidates who can occasionally work onsite at Newport News, VA; Lexington, MA; Orlando, FL; Charlottesville, VA; Omaha, NE; or Morgantown, WV are preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead comprehensive software testing efforts:
    • Develop and execute detailed test plans for both functional and component-level testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
    • Perform manual testing on the product and its components to ensure usability and to identify any regressions.
    • Track and manage issues to resolution, including necessary retesting.
  • Engage early in capability identification and test development:
    • Collaborate with systems engineers and development teams from the outset to clarify system requirements and specifications.
    • Assist in crafting system requirements to ensure clarity, testability, and coverage.
    • Create detailed test cases and scenarios, developing feature files using Gherkin syntax for test automation.
  • Oversee system-level test design and execution:
    • Act as the test lead for medium to large-complexity projects and eventually oversee testing for a portion of the product.
    • Design and evaluate tests to ensure the system meets defined requirements and capabilities.
    • Lead test events to verify integration and interaction among system components.
    • Collaborate with developers to identify and resolve any issues encountered.
  • Thrive in a remote work environment:
    • Regularly participate in team meetings and communicate effectively.
    • Work alongside developers, systems engineers, and fellow testers to develop a comprehensive set of tests to validate the software.
    • Utilize communication tools such as Microsoft Teams and Slack for effective collaboration.
  • Support the automation of manual tests and software tooling:
    • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of automated test scripts using frameworks such as JUnit, Jest, Cucumber, or similar.
    • Identify opportunities to incorporate Grafana within the testing context.

Basic Qualifications:

  • US citizen with an active DOD Secret Security Clearance and the capability to maintain your clearance during employment.
  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience or a Master's Degree with 2+ years of experience. Additional experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 3+ years of software testing experience.
  • Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and principles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing test plans, test cases, and defect reports.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding communication and teamwork skills, especially in remote environments.
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and recognize when to seek assistance.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Knowledge of Agile Development, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Delivery methodologies and tools.
  • Experience using version control systems (e.g., Git) and issue tracking systems (e.g., Jira).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Jest, Cucumber).
  • Experience in developing feature files (e.g., using Gherkin).
  • Familiarity with specific testing tools (e.g., Bruno, Selenium, JMeter).
  • Background in Agile development environments.
  • Experience in performance and security testing.
  • Experience in database testing.
  • Knowledge of Agile tools such as Jira, Bitbucket/GitLab, Confluence.
  • Awareness of Continuous Integration and delivery tools like Jenkins, SonarQube.
  • Experience in modern software development, including microservices and container-based architectures.

If you seek a challenging and dynamic workplace, you may fit in perfectly at Leidos. We strive to outthink, outbuild, and outpace the status quo because the mission demands innovation. We want disruptors who reject complacency and thrive on challenge.
