Hybrid 4 onsite / 1 work from home in Greenwood Village, CO

The organization is hiring a backend engineer to implement Java 17 and Spring Boot services, design REST and GraphQL APIs, and support data-intensive workflows across PostgreSQL and Apache Cassandra. The role will contribute to event-driven architectures using Kafka and improve performance with Redis while ensuring high-quality, tested code and close collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Due to client requirements, applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis. For our w2 consultants, we offer a great benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, 401k with company matching, and life insurance.

Rate: $40.00 to $50.00/hr. w2

Responsibilities:

• Analyze existing Java backend services to understand business logic and data flows.

• Implement APIs using Java 17 and Spring Boot within a shared backend platform.

• Design and build GraphQL APIs aligned with frontend requirements.

• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs.

• Work with PostgreSQL and Apache Cassandra data stores.

• Support data migration and legacy system coexistence strategies.

• Implement event-driven workflows using Kafka.

• Use Redis for caching and performance optimization.

• Write unit and integration tests to ensure production-ready code.

• Follow architectural patterns, coding standards, and review processes.

• Collaborate with the Backend Architect, frontend, QA, and DevOps teams.

Experience Requirements:

• 5+ years of backend development experience.

• Strong understanding of microservices or modular backend architecture.

• Expertise in Java 17, Spring Boot, and Spring Framework.

• Hands-on experience designing GraphQL APIs.

• Experience developing RESTful APIs.

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL.

• Working knowledge of Apache Cassandra.

• Experience with Kafka-based event-driven systems.

• Experience using Redis.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

• Docker-based application development (preferred).

• Maven builds and dependency management (preferred).

• AWS experience, especially S3 (preferred).

• Strong unit and integration testing experience (preferred).

• Kubernetes fundamentals (preferred).

• Splunk or similar logging and monitoring tools (preferred).

• Experience with legacy system migration or modernization (preferred).
