The Law Enforcement Records Bureau gathers, analyzes, and disseminates criminal justice data used by New Mexico law enforcement, criminal justice, corrections, courts, and civil agencies to ensure public safety. The bureau maintains complete and accurate records and responds to the needs of the public, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies providing support and customer engagement through our many applications, programs, and services to achieve the mission objectives.
Why does the job exist?
The New Mexico Department of Public Safety seeks a detail-driven Expungement Analyst to join its Law Enforcement Records Bureau (LERB). This position plays a vital role in restoring individuals' rights by analyzing, verifying, and processing court authorized expungements of criminal history records. The analyst collaborates with courts, prosecutors, corrections agencies, and law enforcement to confirm case eligibility and ensure lawful data removal. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical, research, and documentation skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential information with Integrity while maintaining accurate records of every completed expungement.
How does it get done?
Process and Validate Court Orders: Download and review Administrative Office of the Court (AOC) files containing petitions and orders for expungement; create individual DPS case files, enter data into the DPS expungement tracking system, retrieve case jackets, and conduct detailed cross-verification between court orders and DPS criminal history records to ensure accuracy and compliance. Update Criminal Justice Systems: Accurately update records in the New Mexico Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and the FBl's Interstate Identification Index (III); apply corresponding updates to DPS case files and documentation to reflect finalized expungement orders. Monitor and Report Compliance: Develop, maintain, and enhance data collection and reporting processes to measure compliance with expungement program requirements, ensuring that all procedural updates and statutory mandates are consistently documented and tracked.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the Expungement Analyst position is highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in researching, reviewing, and verifying complex Information from multiple sources. They demonstrate a thorough understanding of court procedures, systems, and applicable rules within their jurisdiction, paired with strong analytical and data management skills to ensure accuracy across records and reports. This candidate communicates clearly, collaborates effectively with partner agencies, and manages sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. They excel in maintaining detailed documentation, meeting deadlines, and adapting to evolving program requirements. Superior communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities, combined with a strong work ethic and proficiency in databases and spreadsheets, will ensure success in this role.
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and fingerprinting in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations; and is conditional pending results. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony free, per Section 5.12.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy.
In addition, the selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver¿s license and a current Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico; or pass and receive the Defensive Driving Certificate within six (6) months of date of hire.
Travel is required.
Working Conditions
Office setting, exposure to visual and video display terminal and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. Subject to a national fingerprint-based record checks prior to assignment. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony-free, per FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Polley.
