Job Description
As a Light-Wheel Vehicle Specialist in the Army National Guard, you play a crucial role in ensuring that all wheeled vehicles are ready for action. You will have the opportunity to supervise and engage in maintenance and recovery operations on a variety of wheeled vehicles, both in the field and in the workshop.
Your responsibilities will encompass inspecting, servicing, maintaining, repairing, testing, adjusting, and replacing systems and components; performing recovery operations; and servicing electrical systems, including wiring harnesses and charging systems.
Job Duties
- Maintain wheeled vehicles, associated trailers, and material handling equipment systems
- Service automotive electrical systems, including wiring harnesses, starting, and charging systems
Helpful Skills
- Interest in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues
- Curiosity about automotive engines and their operation
Through your training, you will gain the skills and experience necessary to pursue a fulfilling civilian career in diverse settings such as service stations, auto dealerships, farm equipment companies, and state highway agencies. You may explore roles as a mechanic focusing on carburetors, transmissions, radiators, construction equipment, or endless track vehicles.
Earn While You Learn
Instead of incurring costs to gain these skills, you will earn a paycheck while training. In the Army National Guard, you will acquire valuable job skills as you receive a regular salary and qualify for tuition assistance.
Job training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn essential Soldiering skills, followed by 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), combining classroom instruction and practical field experience.

Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school or possess a high school diploma or GED
- Age range: 17 to 35
- Must pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
- Must meet citizenship requirements
