Ammonia Technician

Our client is a well-known mechanical contractor who is looking to bring on an Ammonia Technician to help grow their Nashville presence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair ammonia refrigeration systems (NH3) in accordance with PSM (Process Safety Management) and RMP (Risk Management Program) standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections and diagnostics of compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, and pumps.
  • Monitor system performance and make adjustments to optimize efficiency and maintain required temperatures.
  • Respond to alarms, system failures, or emergency calls to minimize downtime and ensure safety.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all refrigeration equipment per manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain detailed logs and documentation of work performed, system readings, and incident reports.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and IIAR (International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration) regulations.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of PSM and RMP programs.
  • Work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, and safety teams.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade or technical school certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience working with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial refrigeration principles, including PSM/RMP compliance.
  • RETA CARO or CIRO certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (climbing, lifting, confined spaces, etc.).
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • RETA (Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association) membership or certifications.
  • Experience in food-grade or cold storage environments.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and SCADA systems.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental responsibility.
