Principal Technical Architect

Location: Remote (U.S.-based, EST hours preferred)
Travel Requirement: Up to 25%
Type: Full-Time (Permanent)
Salary Range: $136,000 - $200,000 base + 15-18% annual bonus

Overview

Seeking a Principal Technical Architect with deep expertise in Databricks and enterprise data architecture. This is a client-facing leadership role responsible for designing, leading, and delivering large-scale data platforms, AI/ML pipelines, and modern data lakehouse solutions.

You'll collaborate closely with stakeholders, technical teams, and business leaders to translate complex data needs into scalable solutions. If you're passionate about Databricks, ML/AI, and guiding teams through modern data transformations, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture and delivery of enterprise-grade data platforms using Databricks
  • Translate client requirements into scalable data, analytics, and ML solutions
  • Implement advanced Databricks features including MLFlow, Delta Live Tables, and Unity Catalog
  • Define MLOps strategy including model lifecycle, automation, and CI/CD best practices
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders (including C-level) to align technical initiatives with business outcomes
  • Mentor technical teams, lead engagements, and ensure delivery excellence
  • Leverage tools in the Databricks partner ecosystem (e.g., Fivetran, dbt, Coalesce, Alation)
  • Produce architecture documentation and client-ready technical artifacts
Required Skills & Experience
  • 10-15 years of experience in data engineering, architecture, or enterprise development
  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark
  • Strong Python and SQL development skills
  • Experience with MLFlow, model training, deployment, and monitoring at scale
  • Deep knowledge of Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Lakehouse best practices
  • Prior experience working in a consulting, professional services, or client-facing delivery environment
  • Cloud experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
Certifications (Required)
  • Databricks Certified Data Engineer - Associate or Professional
  • Databricks Certified AI/ML Professional or Specialist
Preferred
  • Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, ADF, etc.)
  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks (Great Expectations, Deequ)
  • Exposure to modern BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)
